Found a newborn gray squirrel on the ground Saturday morning. Mom didn't come to get him and he needed immediate attention (his two siblings didn't make it). My neighbor, a vet tech who is experienced with wildlife rehab, stabilized him and showed me how to take care of him. So now I am mom. Temporarily.
He makes the most adorable squeaking and clicking sounds when I feed and clean him, I just had to record it. I've now had him for 3 days and am really glad he's still doing well. He's a spritely little fighter! It'll be so bittersweet when he's eventually ready to go to a rehabilitation center to be released. Doing my best to see that he makes it.
I'll be happy when I can sleep. He needs to be fed. A lot. Here's a video of him just after he had his first morning feeding.
