As a part of my birthday present and ongoing mid-life crisis, I made a compromise and went skydiving... indoors. Call me a man of danger, on a somewhat safe level.
There's less than a week until Christmas! There are LOTS of Christmas tunes here on kompoz, a few of which I've been priveledged to be a part. This year there are more than ever. What are your favorite Christmas kompoz projects? Here are a few proud past Christmas projects for me:
All of what I've heard is very good quality recordings of bands that would never dare play within 200 miles (that's 791 Imperial Farthings) from me. Most post FLAC encoded wav files, but not hard to encode to whatever you want with BonkEnc or VLC Media Player. You'll also need a torrent client to download them.
I've already experienced a wealth of bands that are not available at Walmart, nor on the radio... Galactic, Widespread Panic, Derek Trucks Band, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Jimmy Herring Band and more. Cool stuff.
Back before there was Kompoz.com, I spent a bunch of time at myvirtualband.com. It was a fun "homey" place where the spirit of open collaboration was very much alive. The owners, Scott Mason and Kelly Senecal were very accessible to the members for suggestions and creative ways to improve the site. Even the logo seen above is made up of images of some of its members (that's me on the right, the guy in the center is kompoz' very own Rick Ellis).
Unfortunately, the new owners that purchased the site and its approximately 4500 members decided to dump the idea of real free and open collaboration in favor of trying to push their loops (for sale) on its members. I can still log in there, but I cannot collaborate, due to a glitch that the owners have not been able to fix for almost 3 years. Tech support? No. Answer emails? No.
The GOOD NEWS: I found all 13 of the MVB Radio shows on my hard drive and thought they should be available for those who like to reminisce on those good times at MVB. http://www.archive.org/details/MvbRadioShows
MVB was great fun but only a small fragment of how far kompoz has come in a very short time. Keep up the good work, Raf.
p.s. Anyone former MVB folks got a handle on what Scott and Kelly are up to?
