On Friday night my daughter Jasmine played her first show to a drunken bunch of appreciative Aussie pub dwellers.
3 years ago Jasmine joined Kompoz and said hey Dad I think you'll like this site I just joined, it's lots of fun and so began our journey. She had a welcome start thanks to Jeff Reeks and Rob Glass on a little tune called "Too Far", they guided her through and gave her some fond memories along with Mark Miller and Felipe a long lost Kompoz friend who we both miss. Of course An'leree was there early on too with a song called "Haunted Dreams" which Jasmine entered in a Kompoz competition. Minime was another of her favourite collaborators who she had fun with, that crazy German has one flatulent sense of humour.
I remember Jasmine teasing me as one of her songs topped the members list and then made a staff pick and still to this day I can't top that and you know what, that's the way it should be for we live for our children and if anyone is gonna top us it will always be them for that is the natural order, this is what we hope for. On Friday night she lit up the stage and made me both happy and proud, she delivered what she had worked so hard to get to. Talent is a myth, if anything it is determination that is the difference and this young lady, my daughter has that more than most.
To all of you who she worked with and that I may have missed thank you for you have all played a part in making her happy with this musical life she has adopted. She will now join us in the hopeless ranks of the multitude of musicians who do it for the sheer love and not for money, may she carry this torch on to the next generation and light up their eyes as we have for her.
