Just thinking of pulling together a history of RPM on Kompoz.
The major Kompozgroup efforts.
More restricted efforts by Kompozers here on kompoz. (Successful and not.) Let me know of any you know about please.

This lyric just came to me this morning. It might be cool if we could get something roughed in before the day ends... Make the nightly news somewhere? Make the dance floor tonight?
Some quick help would be appreciated guys:

Begin And Persist Just posted a new blog at: zotz " I get tired of hearing about people sending out Cease And Desist notices to others. Especially as it relates to music, the arts, culture, and software. So I had this wacky idea. It might be fun to send out Begin And Persist notices. If you are doing the Free (Free Culture - Free Software) thing in some area why not send out a Begin And Persist notice to friends asking them to begin sharing your work with others and to persist in doing so. ..." National Novel Writers Month NaNoWriMo is about to start on November 1st. I am looking to write a novel in November again this year. I will be posting the first draft in blog form each day as I progress here: Baldy - A Bahamian Shaggy Dog Story I am looking to write some lyrics for the novel and I am also looking for other lyricists to write some Free lyrics that can be included in the novel. (Must be written in November and licensedBY or BY-SA, no NClicensed works accepted for inclusion.) I am further looking to have these lyrics turned into at a minimum demo mixes asap so that I can provide links to the projects / mixes in the novel itself. (For a bit of cross promotion.) If you have any interest at all in this, please jump in. Let me know asap as well. |
In a blog by Cory Doctorow titled The real cost of free we have him saying this: "Consider the remarkable statement from Alanis Morissette's attorney at the Future of Music Conference: 97% of the artists signed to a major label before Napster earned $600 or less a year from it. And these were the lucky lotto winners, the tiny fraction of 1% who made it to a record deal." and: "So yeah, if you want to try to control individual copies of your work on the internet, go ahead and try. I think it's a fool's errand, and so does almost every technical expert in the world, but what do we know? But for so long as this plan involves embedding control, surveillance and censorship into the very fabric of the information society's infrastructure, I'll continue to tour the world, for free, spending every penny I have and every ounce of energy in my body to fight you." Any thoughts on the quote or the full article? |
llcon: Internet Jam Session Software "About | The llcon software enables musicians to perform real-time jam sessions over the internet. There is one server running the llcon server software which collects the audio data from each llcon client software, mixes the audio data and sends the mix back to each client." Just came across this in another context and thought it might interest some. | |
Ideas for Starting a Kompoz Project & kicking it into Gear.

In my case I mostly start with a text lyric or part of one and hopefully a title. But you may start with a vocal lyric or as with most at Kompoz, some sort of music track that has your idea. I will try and give advice for all those situations but I might need help for some as I generally don't start in all of those ways.
I will also speak to finding existing projects in need of your talents.
It is hard to know where to go first with this so I will jot down a number of ideas and hopefully refine things over time.
One idea is to give possible collaborators as much as possible to begin with.
So I see the project overview page lists the key as E major and a BPM of 120. This is a good start if correct.
My next idea would be to try and add a rough drum track or at least a click track to the mix with the vocal.
If you could add any intrument track to indicate the chord changes I figure that has to help some. (Some of us lyric type folks would be lost trying this though.)
Next I think about invitin people to the project. One thing that can help in this (note to self - you need to do more of this drew) is to make notes as you listen to stuff you like on kompoz as to who played what instruments in what styles and who did what vocals in what styles and who wrote what lyrics in what styles (get the idea) and use these notes to guide your invites.
