I have been singing just about my whole life, always "performing" for my relatives at family gatherings.
In 1980, I heard a song on the classical radio station by Beethoven, I turned to my mother and said "I want to do that". And shortly thereafter, my parents bought my a piano and got me lessons. Of course, mom was strict with rules.. I would NOT walk away from it. Back then I didn't understand, but now that I see the cost of intruments, I completely understand.
Shortly thereafter I began taking violin lessons in school, and I loved it just as much as piano.
In high school I joined my first Choir, and got heavily involved in drama, school musicals and played violin in our schools orchestra. By my senior year, I had become very musically driven, and had a need to prove to myself that I can accomplish anything, so I had joined two additional chiors. I also was tired of being a second violinist, near 7th chair... so I pushed myself to practice hard everyday before the Orchestra directior was to pick chair positions. The auditions were blind, meaning, you were given and number and when you came in, the directors back was to you, you said nothing, and then you played three peices in front of you. One was a complex scale, another was a song you knew you were to play, another was a site reading test. Two days later, the orchestra director started to read off the numbers and the chair positions. When head read my number and called my chair position, he turned white.. ha ha.. I just had landed 2nd chair 1st Violin. Sitting next to the best violinst in the school. I am still very proud of what I accomplished.
For many years after highschool, I got involved heavily in karaoke. I had an enormous amount of people compliment me on my voice and suggest I do something more with it. But I always just thought these are bar flys that have just had a little too much to drink.
In 2007 I got tired of karaoke, and started searching for something different.. and found kompoz. Once here I was befriended by many wonderful musicians, and encouraged to keep reaching for the stars.
In 2008, After doing about 60+ collaborations between kompoz and other places, I started working with a local musician Jeff Hamel of Majestic, on a Epic Progressive CD. In the summer of 2009 the CD "Arrival" was released and is being met with great reviews!!
Then in late summer 2009, Jeff and I had spoken of putting together a band, which we did so with my husband Chris Nathe on drums, long time friend Jerry Swan on Bass, Jeff Hamel on guitars, and myself as the Singer. Just recently we added keyboard player to my list of duties for the band.
October 2009, our band decided on the name of "Descension Rising", and will fall under the umbrella of the Majestic project. "Descension Rising" will be a live prog band, with many geners mixed inbetween. We are going to bring a little bit of everything to our fans, with a little of the Majestic charm intertwined.
Currently, other than the band, I am still working with Jeff Hamel on a new project with Mr. Gregg Johns of Slycosis, called "Proximal Distance", we are getting close to wrapping this CD up and announce a release soon. Jeff and I will continue to work on Majestic magic, and a new follow up CD is in the thinking tank. I also am still working with others at Kompoz as time will allow, and working periodically as a paid musician on collaboration projects.
I always say my journey in music is like the life of the monarch butterfly, and I am very excited to see where else the journey will take me!
