For those who know me, my real name is Donald...but I use Donnie Alan as kind of a 'none-de-plume' for music.  Music has always been a huge part of my life.  I had piano lessons as early as age 5, and later some accordian (which I never play anymore).  At 14 I got my first acoustic guitar and taught myself to play that.  I've had a lot of music theory over the years, so have a good understanding of how music is structured and composed.  In the 80's I got my first synth, and I've been hooked on synths ever since.  I love creating my own sounds. 

Mainly I like to compose and arrange my own stuff.  I'm not a good keyboard player in that I would not be the guy you'd hire for your keyboard soloist for live performance.  But in a studio setting, I like to take the time to work out ideas and see what works best.  On guitar, I've been told I'm an excellent folk player...I think they were being kind.

The other thing I love to do is mixing.  I've spent a lot of time studying mix engineering techniques, espeically with Pro Tools, and am always happy to help with a mix as time allows.  I have a solid background in acoustics and audiology and taught speech science and the physics of sound as a graduate assistant in graduate school.  I've also been using synths and audio equipment for over 3 decades.

Stylistically, I lean to folk, "New Age" and classical, and once in a while, something in the Rock genre.  Not into Jazz much, but Blues are okay.  Rap is out of the question!

I have several "sketches" I've worked out, but am interested in finding other like-minded musicians to help me work out some ideas and see where they go. But mostly I hope to contribute to others projects and offer whatever help I can technically to the process.

I'm not much of lyricist, but I have taken others lyrics and set them to music.  I can come up with the odd phrase or two that fit in.  But I'd rather arrange or compose music than attempt lyrics.
