Hey, Pro Toolers,

I just wanted to know how everyone is backing up their PT sessions. Do you use an external hard drive or online backup? What do you guys think of services like Mozy, Crashplan, etc? What are the pros and cons of using online backup services?

d.

I use external disks and when they are full I archive them (with the power supply) and buy a new one. In my case it's about two 1TB disks a year. Since disks are so cheap I think I won't buy huge storage plans online. Not yet at least.

Hmm... Maybe I should backup the archived disks... :)

That's not backing up Arve, the drive could decide not to operate after 2 years, u really need 1 original, 2 copies. Not that I do that either, I pretty much do what you do : )

lol, you're right about that - that's why I wrote "...maybe I should backup..." at the end. :)

I just save my projects on external drives like you guys, and true, I wonder how it is best to archive files. I feel that flash drives could be reliable because vibration and motion won't affect their performance unlike regular disks. Do they sell flash drives in great storage capacity? I myself don't feel that clouds and other online storage facilities can be trusted in the long run. What if their system fails and dies? A thrid party's fault on your valuable info at loss! Given the price and accessibility of flash drives it could be a good idea to buy a flash drive of say, 8Gb and save some stem renders of projects there, air-tight seal/wrap the drive(s) in plastic and store in a safe place. Would that be a good idea? Any better one?
