The Fast Track Ultra 8R features a front panel adorned with controls and a rear one packed with connections. It offers eight simultaneous inputs and outputs, with hybrid XLR/line inputs offered for all eight channels round the back. There are 8 XLR and 1/4 inch jacks on the rear for inputs. Channels one and two have 1/4 inputs in the front for easy line in during sessions.

I looked into this piece. I have other M-Audio gear and it's all top notch. Not to mention they are the only other company who's gear is authorized by Digidesign to run Protools :)

Digidesign and M-Audio are part of the Audio-Visual group "Avid". They've been very clever acquiring M-Audio and will probably attract many users of M-Audio gear over to using Pro Tools - which is dead easy to use. As for the Fast Track Ultra 8R, this is a seriously good unit for drummers who want to multi-track. Watch the video !!!

I bought the Projectmix i/o specifically for the 8 ins for drum miking. This would do just as well..only thing it doesn't have is digital/optical in.
