Mitch Mitchell, drummer for the legendary Jimi Hendrix Experience of the 1960s and the group's last surviving member, was found dead in his hotel room early Wednesday. He was 61.
An employee at Portland's Benson Hotel called police after discovering Mitchell's body. A deputy medical examiner, said Mitchell apparently died of natural causes. An autopsy is planned.
Damn damn damn. I'm totally bummed on this one. Mitch was a fantastic drummer. Now the Experience are all gone. I had tickets to see him with Buddy Guy for a Hendrix tribute but I stayed home to watch the Red Sox play in the World Series. This makes it more regrettable I didn't go.

Rest in peace, Mitch. Enjoy the big jam session in the sky.

I know it sounds like a conspiracy theory, but it seems that alot of people surrounding Hendrix, died before their time - Jimi, Mike Jeffery, Monika Danneman, Noel, Mitch, Devon Wilson.
check this out. I'm pretty convinced that jimi was murdered either as part of the counter intelligence project or by Mike Jeffery's people because jimi wanted out of Jeffery's dictatorial grip.this is the conspiracy.
hendrix wasn't a drug addict - he was resistant to sleeping pills a) because of his metabolism and be) because he was an insomniac so took alot of them, and lots of details weren't reported at the time, like his door was open and he had a rag around his neck soaked in red wine.
what do you think?

If suicide was the intent, or if it was an accident it's doubtful that he would have been fully clothed? He thinks for his stomach to be so full of wine someone must have forced him to drink? I dunno, this guy doesn't make many good points.
As for Mitch, he was doing what he loved right to the end. Like Entwistle, like Buck Owens. I hope I go out with my boots on and not slobbering in some rest home. Wait, I think I just drooled on myself.

As long as you drool in tune and rhythm, that's OK, Lonnie.

Here a a couple of tracks from woodstock that never saw the light of day - Jimi is playing backup guitar and larry lee is singing.
RIP Mitch.... easily one of my favorites and he brought out the best in Jimi, and visa-versa. He passed away just a few miles from my house here in Portland. Truly a classic and one of a kind. Just like Jimi, someone to be celebrated

My heart is heavy each and every time we lose a person of Mitch's stature in the music biz, all those people who helped to shape us, we are left with an empty hole... (the world wil try to erase every man) but can't erase Mitch Mitchel, Noel Redding, or Jimi Hendrix. But we all feel the loss.

You know I never thought of any plot to kill Hendrix. It seemed to me that if anything he was having trouble..maybe coughing, someone gave him (or he somehow grabbed) wine to drink to clear his throat and he was too out of it to swallow. Anytime someone famous dies too soon we have conspiracy theories about it. Brian Jones, Marilyn, Jimi, Morrison, Joplin, Drake, Elliot Smith..And others that are suspicious somehow get glossed over (Cobain, Buckley). I guess the only time it isn't suspect is when people go "Oh they were just being themselves and died" i.e. Mama Cass and the "sandwich", Cobain and suicide, Moon and the Antibuse etc.. Bottom line is it sucks to lose them all regardless of how.

Peace
I got to jam with him and Jack Bruce at rocket studios NYC before Blues Saraceno got the gig in 1987 i think,
He was filling in for Ginger Baker, i was very honored to find out who he was after spending a few hours jamming, we hung in the lounge for 45 minutes and all he did was say nice things about me, he was so humble, i thought he was pulling my leg when he said he used to play with Jimi Hendrix, at the time i wanted nothing to do with Jimi's tunes, everyone was doing them and he thought it was cool to play something new, so it was fun.
