More from Fernstock: An Actual Hammond B3! Mon, Nov 5, 2007 10:30 PM CST - Byraf
Here's something you don't see much anymore: An actual Hammond B3 live on stage! Yeah sure, every electronic keyboard made today has a B3 patch, but there's no substitute for the real thing.
I took this picture Saturday night at Fernstock. This is Brooks Reid playing with his awesome band, The SonicKats. It was interesting (and nerve-wracking) to watch the crew haul the B3 up onto the stage. Check out the Leslie speaker cabinet (this is the back of the cabinet).

When I was young 15, I would rodie for my brothers band, that included a B3 and Leslie, sometimes up a stairs. That's a young mans game.

Can't match the analogs for that warm, rich sound. It's analogous to vacuum tubes, still cranked out in the former Soviet Union, and craved by audiophiles around the world. Funny how some digital sound cards and boards today come wired with a tiny vacuum tube to replicate that warm analog sound...

mullard valves - the 12AX7 - the holy grail for pre-amps.
the best EL34's (for marshall JCM's etc.) made nowadays I've read are Svetlana 'winged C's -
Groovetubes' valves are Russian made valves with their labelling and prices.
Watford valve have a site where they offer cryogenically treated valves.
