MySpace Launches Music Service with Labels, Amazon

MySpace celebrated a midnight launch of its new music service, which will allow users to stream songs, add them into their MySpace playlists (in return for encountering advertisements), and purchase them from Amazon's MP3 store without leaving the MySpace site. The catalog includes music from four major music labels which control 70 percent of the U.S. recorded music business.
But there's trouble.
The very online service that has been such a boon for independent music artists is now facing criticism for allegedly freezing those same artists out of the picture. Independent labels say they feel like they've been locked out. No indie record company has inked a deal with MySpace Music.
