New 4 Track Recorder Application for iPhone

I just found this on the App store and it's getting great reviews. I've wanted this app forever for capturing on the road inspiration. After using it for about an hour I have to say it works extremely well and is well worth the 10 bucks. It even has built in compression for each track.
Audio geeks and songwriters who own an iPhone or iPod touch will be thrilled to play with FourTrack - an application that records, mixes and plays up to four tracks. While this isn’t going to take the place of your main recording setup anytime soon, it is highly portable and does a casual enough job seriously to warrant a serious consideration. The $10 price tag might be 10 times more than those lightweight iPhone apps, but at least the price is justified, thanks to its rudimentary, four-track-like functionality. Both recording and mixing procedures are a snap, and recording length depends on how much empty space you have left inside. Each track will also be stored as a separate, mono, 44.1 kHz WAV file that can then be transferred over to a computer via Wi-Fi, doing away with the need for pesky cables.

Very cool. Hey, let's produce a collab created completely using only this app. I'm serious. Let's try it. Who's in?
EDIT: Hmmm... I don't see how a collab would work, unless there's a way to load in a track produced by someone else. Is there?

Not sure if it's possible to load a track into the app from a DAW. I have to read up on it.

I don't see a way to upload tracks to the app, but you can download them via a wi-fi connection to your PC. So, we could each record up to 4 tracks on our iPhones, then share those tracks and do the final mixdown on a PC. Might be fun.

I took my iPhone to the pub tonight, and attempted to record a live band. Unfortunately, there is no input level control on the iPhone. To get a lower level, you either have to reduce the volume of the thing you are recording (which was not an option in this case), or point or move the microphone away from the sound source. Needless to say, the live performance clipped out. Too bad -- it was a great performance.

Is there an external mic input? If so, a mic with an inline volume attenuator would do it.
Otherwise, I think there is SDK available to write your own apps for iphone. Maybe if you had knowledge of the iPhone's API, there is a parameter you could adjust with your own app.

There are some external options for the iPhone at iphoneware.com under microphones
And I bought the app when it came out and YES it's really cool. I recorded a quick demo on acoustics and the internal mic actually caught the sound quite well. Operationally I only wish it had a bounce function.
