New File Format Adds Fourth Dimension: Alternative Arrangements

Music technology company Musinaut is proposing a new file format called MXP4, which allows artists to embed several "finished" versions of a song within a single file.
Music fans can listen to MXP4 files using a free-to-download MXP4 player, which will play each track based on the rules decided by the artist. The artist can also add multimedia content, such as text, artwork, photos and lyrics to the file, which will show up during playback.
If the file format gains market adoption and becomes a standard, this could be an interesting technology for Kompoz, making it possible to publish alternative takes of finished projects, the individual instrument tracks that make up a finished song, and in-progress "lifecyle" snapshots of a song.
An MXP4 creator is available for download. If you give it a try, let me know and I'll post your findings and your MXP4 for others to have a listen.
No linux support, plus the website says the creator is only free till August 31st??
No thanks.. ;-)

I am likely in line with Adam on this. If the tech is not Libre I am not too interested in it for anything long term.
One alternate possibility to explore for kompoz is putting songs together as multi track traverso projects.
I am looking to do this with the songs Packet In released as a part of the 2008 rpm challenge.

Plus one also has to look at whether there is any strategic aim with this to grab a market share and then 'monetize' on the back of us later... it would not be the first time this sort of thing will have happened ;-)

Kinda neat idea.... but yeah, I think we're seeing another attempt to make a lot of money. Fortunately for us, we don't really "need" this format.
