Soundsnap is pretty cool. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, with an archive of some 30,000+ audio clips ranging in length from seconds to minutes. And the best part is that the clips are royalty-free, non-exclusive, and sublicense-transferable. In fact, the license posted on their site states that:
You are free:
- To remix or transform the sounds in any way - To copy, distribute and transmit the sounds - To use the sounds in any music, film, video game, website etc. whether commercial or not, without paying royalties or other fees
For Kompoz projects, Soundsnap is a perfect companion. Now I can finally write that song about racing pigeons feeding. BTW, if you use this clip in a Kompoz project, let me know and I'll feature it!

agreed raf - one of my projects (crackout) needs some morse code and was discussing with Sid (Armstong) how a real sample here and there can be better than a MIDI version)
mind if i point people to the VST suppository I've put in the hardware and software section of the main forum . please feel free to add to it?
there are a few more major sample sites on free music software which'll take care of the rest of your avian needs.
