The New Sellout: Paying Artists to Include Brands in Lyrics

There's a very interesting blog post on WIRED, which highlights a practice everyone knows goes on, but no one really wants to discuss. The blog exposes an e-mail mistakenly sent to the Anti-Advertising Agency. It's a good read - check it out.

Of course, you could just take things completely over the top like I did in my Script Frenzy screenplay from last year, "Bahamian Idle":
"We move in closer to see a number of gorgeous women in the boat. It is a new BIBN0001 center cockpit sport fisherman."
BIBN0001 being a place holder for a brand name of boat makers who make center cockpit sport fisherman. Then, if the movie ever gots made (wow! imagine that!) I can auction off all of those product placement spots to the highest bidders... ~;-)
And... anyone getting the original screenplay can see the play as it went down...
Fun can't done.

... just imagine that Coca-Cola had The Kinks remove their brand name from the tune "Lola" and replace it with "Cherry Cola". hmmm things were better in the sixties :)

Sitting as I do just north of LA LA Land, California it's understood that marketing IS the product. The money is in promoting the product, not designing, making or selling the product. If you promise me enough money you too can have your logo tattooed on my ass.

I'd like to open the bidding for space on Lonnies ass at $5. Do I hear $5.01?
