Pro Tools 8: DigiDesign has announced Pro Tools 8, the next generation of their flagship digital audio platform. This release sports a hot new UI and lots of unexpected goodies. Digidesign announced Pro Tools 8 earlier this month, just before AES. While there is no definite ship date yet (which is curious because they've already launched the web site), speculation is that it will ship within the next 2 months.
AC/DC: AC/DC released their 15th studio album this past Monday, their first album in 8 years. The album is available only at ACDC.com, Wal-Mart, and Sam's Club. True fans rejoice: Angus ramains true to his successful three-chord power-chord formula, and thrills with some fresh new riffs. Personally, I was hoping for a little more musical evolution from the band.
Facbook Music: Not wanting to be out-done by MySpace, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg is talking to a number of song-streaming services and music community sites, including Rhapsody.com, iMeem.com, iLike.com, and Lala.com, about an outsourcing deal that would more deeply integrate their music experience into Facebook, according to the New York Post. The company has been toying with the concept off and on for the better part of the year, but Zuckerberg's interest in the concept is believed to have peaked now that MySpace is live with its service.
New MacBooks Port Confusion: Last week, Apple announced updates to its line of MacBook laptops, including the consumer-grade MacBook, the MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air. If you're considering one of these for music production, there are some important details you should know regarding audio interface support. Only the MacBook Pro includes a Firewire port. The MacBook has two USB ports, and the MacBook Air has only one USB port. So FireWire is gone from non-Pro models. And, the previous MacBook Pro model had two Firewire ports - an FW800 and a FW400. The new model has done away with the FW400 port, leaving only a single FW800.

No FW on the new Macbooks? Good to know..I'll stick with my Macbook Classic then as I HAVE to have the FW for the interface.. ACDC goes great with anything..Angus is STILL rocking the uniform...whew, tired now ;)
