Tiny URLs for Tracks Too
Tue, Dec 2, 2008 • 12:25 PM CST - By raf

A while back, we added a feature to Kompoz to allow for compact URLs for projects.  The feature makes it easier to share links to your projects via e-mail and text messages.  Read the blog post to get a complete run-down on the process.

Ben recently suggested that we do the same for direct links to specific tracks within a project.  A great idea -- so we just added that feature too.  So now, instead of this:

kompoz.com/compose-collaborate/home.track.project?projectId=4985&trackId=19610

You can use this:

kompoz.com/T19610

Just take the track ID from the original URL, add a "T", and add the result to the end, after the Kompoz domain name.  Suggested uses: a) Great for text messages, b) Make a bumper sticker, c) Make a t-shirt, e) Fits on a fortune cookie insert!

I have also urged raf to introduce the koncept of "huge URLs" (affectionately known as "Texas URLs") for those more technically inclined, for example:

https://www.kompoz.com:80/compose-collaborate/show.page.in.the.very.beginning.of.the.site?u=a066f7d3097d7e8faab4b5b6a0553b4a6e30bb84&b=asdjajffrawlkhfqhhaslkhfalulwermkweafkkarfairkkamm&f=semi&g=sameasf&go=lookatitforthefirsttimeifnotsessioncookieset&redirecttostartifnotalreadycomingfromthere=1&t=youarenotsupposedtounderstandthis

for the start page. This would help tremendously. Thank you.

I said I am URGING raf to implement. It seems he has not seen the benefits of this obvious improvement yet...

I will accede to "Texas URLs" so long as it ends there. If, on the other hand, this is just a step onto the slippery slope and someone is going to then push for "Alaska URLs" then let's just nip it in the bud.
