hmm, well I wasn't going to do this, I guess I can write something.
I will try to play whatever I can get my hands on.
I prefer guitar (Gibsons) and piano..
I started playing at age 11 (1963). I wanted to play drums but parents said no.. so it was guitar.
I took lessons for 3 years and almost died of boredom but I did "learn" alot theoretically. I quit for a while. Then a friend taught me to play by ear.. and I have rarely stopped since.
Influences... pick a band from 1966-1975..
The Dead, and... hmmmm let's see, don't seem to remember anyone else....... oh yeah and the Stones, Allmans, Clapton, Zep, Hendrix.. the list is endless.
Then it was fusion, then jazz. Everyone from Charlie Christian to John McLaughlin.
Spent a few years as an audio engineer in an electronic music studio in the 80's...
Which led to Boulez and Stockhausen, which led to an immersion in ethnic music from just about everywhere.
Which led to a career in television?
In the real world, I am a fine art photographer, video editor, and woodworker.
I do custom furniture from exotic hardwoods and turned wooden bowls.
I can share 2 musical moments that are memorable to me.
The first is having the chance to play a Steinway Grand in the main hall of the lodge at the north rim of the Grand Canyon.. the acoustics were extraordinary.
The other is playing a Bosendorfer piano at college. For several days after a Keith Jarrett concert the piano (which had been rented) was left on stage.. and no one seemed to be in a hurry to remove it.. so I played it for several hours each day.. now that's a fine piano.
And that is about all there is.
