I used to sit for hours at a small table, with a microphone plugged into a lexicon jamman, plugged into a digitech DPS8000, plugged into a microverb and a four-track yamaha mt100. I explored vocal loops and nuances that served as their own instrumentation, as well as instrumentation for others.
Years down the road I picked up piano and other instruments. As babies were born and finances fell apart, I sold the piano among other things. We moved to a smaller house and even now, there is no place quiet and safe from toddlers to set up anything resembling a "home studio".
However, I take solace in the joy that I have friends on here who continue to be incredibly prolific and inspiring. I sneak their tracks onto my Tascam, and promise that I will set up camp at 3am in a bathroom if I must to have the pleasure that envelops me with their music, and my own old reliable voice--the one instrument that hasn't become a Craigslist casualty---how blessed I am for that--and the folks here.
