Kompoz Blog on Amazon Kindle Sun, May 31, 2009 07:41 AM CDT - Byraf
I recently purchased a Kindle, the nifty ebook reader produced by Amazon. I actually purchased it for my wife, an avid reader, but I've been slowly taking it over. I love it. I was very skeptical at first, thinking it could not be as comfortable as a paperback, or that it would cause eye strain. But after downloading my first book and digging into it, I'm hooked. It's a great device that makes paperback books seem *so* last week. And I feel good knowing I'm saving trees. Oh, snap!
Of course, as I am always thinking about Kompoz, I wondered if it would be possible to publish Kompoz content to the Kindle. After a quick Google search, I found that Amazon has opened up access to the Kindle, allowing blog owners to publish content to the Kindle Store. I of course signed up, and was approved within about 24 hours. If you're a Kindle owner and can't get enough of Kompoz, you can now read the Kompoz blog on your Kindle anywhere, anytime.
To be honest, I'm not sure why you would want to. Amazon charges $1.99 to subscribe to each blog, including Kompoz, and I did not see any way for me, as the blog publisher, to offer it for free. Kompoz get's 30% of that, Amazon keeps the rest. Of course, if you want to support Kompoz, please do subscribe -- I need to buy a couple of replacement laptops.

As a typical iPhone user, I can understand that you believe that ebooks are something new. I have used ereader (formerly Peanut Press reader) for about 6-7 years on my handheld devices :). It is great, you don't even need a bedlight and you can carry 150 books in your phone/pda (unless, of course, it is an iPhone, which is designed only to look good, not to actually be used :)). Hahaha. How is that for starting a discussion ? :)

Yes, I know there have been many ebook technologies before the Kindle. But none have mass adoption. The electronic paper technology of the Kindle is what makes it interesting. No eye strain, very low battery usage.
And there's a Kindle app for the iPhone too. If you put the Kindle down in the middle of chapter 2, then pick up your iPhone, you can start reading where you left off. Pretty cool.

?? hmmm "none have mass adoption"? I beg to differ. ereader is HUGE. And works on a normal - for example - Nokia phone. And of course ereader has always remembered where you were in the book :), has a built-in dictionary that looks up if you highlight a word, supports annotations, bookmarks, direkt shopping of books from the device etc etc etc. But I am sure the kindle is groundbreaking :) hahah
Sorry.

LOL! Hey, will I be able to read about your wedding on the Kindle? Surely it's a huge event in your country! What's the local newspaper there? And do they have an English (or Spanish) version?

We estimate to be on pages 1-16, 18-32 and right after the sports section in all major newspapers. Page 17 will be a Kompoz ad.
