Joe Bonamassa Contest Winners! Mon, Jun 15, 2009 07:38 PM CDT - Byraf
So many great songs. So much talent. The submissions posted to the Joe Bonamassa contest represent a fabulous body of creativity, musicianship, and collaboration.
Picking one winning song from so many was extremely difficult. Before I announce the top picks and the grand prize winner, I want to thank the judges, Joe Bonamassa, his manager Roy Weisman, and Matt Blackett of Guitar Player Magazine. For the past two weeks, the four of us have been listening to the songs and selecting our favorites. The winning song was e-mailed to me today by Roy, after hearing from Joe.
First, in no particular order, here are the Top 12 songs (we had a hard to narrowing it to 10):
We chose "BonaMassive" produced by The Melodic b/k/a Jared Sutherland from Australia because it was the only song on the Top 12 list that took the original music and created something different from its original feel and music style, to something more progressive in a dance track format that was a clean and well produced composition/beat. Love the arrangement. One of the better departures.
Very cool -- nice superimposition of major tonalities. Good mix. Great dynamics thanks to how they chop off the second half of Joe's rhythm figure in the verses. Love how up front Joe's solo is.
Edit: Ok, refresh doesn't make sense since the update.
Way to go everybody!

Congratulations everyone! That was a fun contest. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I do look excellent in pink, however.

Congratulations to the winner, and a big THANK YOU to Rick "The Flying Percussionist" Berls for allowing me to play a (small) part in the runner-up :)
I like this kontest format (i.e. with a "jury") much better than the previous ones, this feels more fair and clear cut.
I will now go and play my Ampeg :)
Rock On

Just don't kill the neighbors with that tower of power. And, remember to keep animals and small children away from the vortex. When you modify the voltage, you may open a worm hole into another dimension.

Voltage duly modified and I am playing from the 5th dimension (width, height, depth, time and Ampeg). When I turned the volume to 2, my family complained and a couple of paintings fell off the walls

Congrats to The Winners! There were some great versions, and musicianship involved. Very diverse...
B, Ampegs are great to Grand Funkify the household, and the neighbors! I've had bass hangovers from them before...something about the gut rumbling...
I've had a club owner ask me to turn my drums down because I was moving bowling pins next door... we told him I wasn't miced...he said PLAY SOFTER!!!

I have a friend who puts towels on the drums when he practises at home. In this house, no such principle is allowed :)

I thought that Marty and his horse would win hands down....or maybe that's where the horse bit me?

I was wondering what that strange resonance was over the last few days, Pascal.

Uncle Rab, these strange sounds appear allways just before and after dinner time...
I guess during dinner the amp must be turned off

I've had to put my mixes through a high pass filter.. seems like some kind of LF rumble keeps invading all the tracks.
