I didn't know where to post this, so I decided to open a blog for it. Until today all of my acoustic guitar and vocal recordings were done with a cheap Beringer C1 mic and now I want to improve my sound a bit. I have a chance of buying a half priced RODE NT1A mic from a friend and I wanted to know if anybody have experienced with recordings and using this mic before and can recommend it. Thanks! |

I don't know the NT1A model, but I have a Rode NT3 which I am very happy with. It seems they make good quality stuff.
My 2 cents.

Thanks B, it was only after you recommended me Rode NT3 I started looking for such kind of mic that eventually led me to this NT1A type.

I use the NT1-A. There are many here that know more about these things. All I can say is that it seems extremely dynamic. It picks up traffic out the window, shuffling papers, ceiling fans, computer fan, repressed memories, everything thats wrong with my vocals and the sound of melodyne sucking money from wallet.
Oh and don't skimp on the headphones. Its very good at picking up the leakage.

That is the same story with the NT3, more than one of my acoustic tracks on here have my wife on the phone in the background :). I thought all condenser mikes were like that?

LOL!!
Yes, my C1 mic is like that too ... You can hear birds singing on my guitar tracks, and sometimes my baby boy who likes to scream exactly when I'm recording a good take.

I use a Rode NTK for everything, and like it. I know that's not the same model, but it has 'Rode' in it.

I thought this was a joke about using a Rodent as a microphone. Where's the funny picture?

Fuzz was using a Rodent mic, but his kitty stomp box ate it.

Never tried an NT1A personally, but I read very good comments from people using it.

Thanks guys, I think I'll get this mic.
Now that I got a new audio interface (PreSonus Firebox) I could try recording the guitar using both microphones in the same time.
BTW The new sound card is really great! I feel there is a sound improvement (New song is coming along! :))

Bjorn... I can't believe nobody took a shot at the wife in the background jokes. (ie. Thats funny i hear your wife in the background on my tracks too... [add lewd remark here]... )
:) I guess Guitar players are just "stand up" guys.
