I just started using Studio One Pro. Today I got the same buzzing sound I got with Cubase 5 essential. When it happens, it freezes the controls to....It locks up and makes a buzzing sound for a second or more. Only thing I was doing today different then the last few weeks is mixing with different VST at the same time...Until today I was only using the PreSonus stuff that came with the DAW. I was using Sonoma 7 VST Plugin and Pod Farm VST. My laptop and PC both have done this on Cubase so I thought it was just a bug in Cubase itself. Is it a PC problem?...

Not necessarily. Not all VST plug-ins work and play well with others. Each DAW has peculiiarities of its own, and sometimes the VST's are not properly tested with each DAW. This is one reason why Pro Tools sticks to the RTAS format for plug-ins, as well as provide a list of approved 3rd party plug-ins. You might check the website for your DAW and see if the VST"s you're using are approved with your DAW. That may not be it, but might be. I've had issues with some VST's with Pro Tools, when I use a VST to RTAS wrapper.

I took all the VST off my project I'm mixing . Now I'm getting crackling sounds every now and then. Everything was crystal clear and glitch free until today...I havent changed anything except adding POD Farm to the VST plugins location. Very frustrating! Thanks D

it maybe a bottleneck on your disk drives? maybe install this small app (its clean and free ) HD Tune check on the drive you use for your music and data to check the speeds ..you'll know if its the root cause if the speed drops away suddenly after a few seconds.and you are getting about 1.5 MB/s data throughput. are you using the same OS that you connect to the net with, for your DAW OS or are you using separate OS' for each..the reason i ask is that sometimes just rebooting in XP helps because they seem to stick between them...use the HD tune app to check on each drive from the other OS if you run your setup like this.

For what it's worth. I had a similar experience with the Sonoma 7 vst with Gearbox (Podfarm predecessor). I was too lazy to track down the problem and just stopped using it. I run Reaper with Gearbox and haven't had any complaints otherwise.

Hmmm...crackling sounds might be more related to something in your hardware, such as an audio cable. If you have an audio interface connected via a USB port, try a different USB port. Sometimes these little noises come from the USB ports. Also, I'd check all your audio cables. Unplug them one at a time and see if the noise goes away when one of them is taken off line. Could just be a bad connection. Otherwise, without hearing it directly, not sure what else to suggest.

@ Ben, I ran that app....It gave me an average of 80.9 MB/sec......I don't know what it means...LOL And I do use the same computer for everything...I go online with my laptop and my PC....I have Windows 7 on both. @ Michael, I have noticed glitches with the Sonoma VST before...It will load slow or not show itself when clicked on.....I'm gonna try not using it and see what happens. @ Donald, it could be my hardware but I haven't changed anything and I have all brand new cables.....Right now I'm using the Line6 UX2 with new Monster cables into my new monitors.....I have been on the Line 6 site and read about people having these cracking sounds using UX2 and UX1....But I have never had this problem till yesterday. Thanks guys, I'm gonna try some things today and see if I can pinpoint the problem.

A possible problem with a driver for the soundcard you're using? Even if it is not a driver problem, a reinstall or update of the driver shouldn't hurt, and it will eliminate that as a possible problem.

Thanks MDK, everything seems to be fine today. Only thing I changed was I removed all the Sonoma and POD Farm VST from my project.....I completely removed POD farm from the DAW...Don't know if that was necessary but I did it anyways. I might try the Sonoma again now...And if it does it again I know that it is the problem...I think it might be....I just like it cuz I got use to it in Riffworks. Thanks

OK, I figured out what was causing the problem. I was mixing all day....And things were going smoothly....So I decided to try the Sonoma VST. As soon as I put it on one of my tracks it did the buzzing thing. Problem solved? Thanks everyone

Could it be an unregistered or improperly registered plugin? Some VST's intentionally make noise in their unregistered or trial versions to thwart piracy.

They give it to you when you buy Riffworks. It's the same effects inside Riffworks but it's for a DAW. http://www.sonomawireworks.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3 Riffworks has been full of bugs...But with the last few updates I haven't had many problems...They have never offered updates for the VST plugin.

Sounds like a communist plot. Spoken in my best Russian accent, "In Soviet Russia, VST affect YOU!"

Sounds like the same results I had with that plugin. I use Riffworks also as a quick scratch pad for ideas. I have never tried the rewire option. I used a UX2 for quite some time til I found a used UX8. I have to say the guys at Sonoma Wireworks were great to work with. I had the line6 version of Riffworks and had problems and the Sonoma fellas were nice enough to just give me the standard version as a replacement, no questions asked. I still use Gearbox as my main 'go to' plugin. Works well with Reaper.
