Jamming   More Control Over Your Own Projects
Thu, Jul 21, 2011 • 07:53 PM UTC - By raf

A few weeks back I posted a blog detailing a new feature which allows you to block abusive members from your projects.  I'm happy to report that it is NOT being used very much, and where it is being used, it is working.

However, I did fail to include another important feature.  I had meant to add the ability for a project owner to delete comments posted to tracks on his/her projects -- I forgot.

I noticed today that a member (who has since been inactivated) had posted dispariaging remarks on all tracks of a certain project.  The project owner, after noticing the comments, blocked the member, but he had no way to remove the abusive comments.  I removed them, then quickly impleted the "delete comment" feature.  As of today, project owners can now delete comments posted to their projects.

Can I also edit other people's comments to say "Wow you are a genius!":).

Thank you for continuously developing Kompoz, Raf!

Thank you, Raf. When shall I expect the "kick his ass for trolling" button? :D Thanks again for the forum in which we call our virtual musical studio/home.

Hard to believe someone would use this community to promulgate ill will and attitude.

Kudos on the "delete comment" feature.

Now. Please delete this post.

Great features -- thanks! (Hope I never have to use 'em, but a comfort as Daz pointed out.) Don't feed the troll(s): just quietly put palm firmly in his face and push out of view. If only there were such a button for "real-life" bullies.

Would it be possible to have the option to "unlike" something? Sure, it's probably a rare thing, but it would be great to have the option.

I thought about asking the same question as Kevin, as I had put a like on a project, but as it developed, certain factors made me dislike it.

It would be a great feature and I could really use it right now, but might have some potential for abuse. Most of the artists out here treat each other with respect & dignity, so abuse would be quite rare imho.

Pretty please Raf?

+1 on having an unlike feature or similar

Well since we're asking for things, I would also love to have a "like" or similar button that one can place on others' comments. Sometimes someone says something amusing, funny, appropriate, etc. that you want to recognize, but don't want to post another comment that will send an email to everyone. And, as others have said, I agree that the ability to rescind a like would also be a great feature. Just wishing out loud.

Delete comment such a simple feature but was just needed so as to give the project owner total control.

I think these guys are asking for a "remove like" button if I read it correctly, it's not a bad idea.

I don't see how removing your like of a track would enhance the site. Sometimes tracks go in different directions to what you expect but the point is you liked it at a certain point so that shouldn't change. If it's for other reasons then that really doesn't serve any purpose that is useful.

The delete feature is enough to let us all enjoy our own space and keep those of ill intent to their own corner of Kompoz where they can write and do whatever they want. Unliking a track wouldn't make me feel better in any circumstance, I'd rather go find some music played by some genuine, heartfelt and good natured artists (there are lots more of these than the other) and compliment them on their work, then I feel good and hopefully so do they.

Andrew - Your point is well taken. Speaking for myself, though, I like the option to undo anything I've done just because it gives a person more control. For example, I can delete a comment I made if I made a typo and want to redo it. Or if I realized what I said could be taken the wrong way. The 'unlike' option, well I guess that's different than undoing a comment. But I find out some guy murders puppies, I don't want my damn "like" hanging out in the open on his projects. ;-p Or, if I have my settings so that I get an email every time someone else comments (such as what happens on Facebook when you "like" something) I might want to get rid of it just so I don't get inundated. Just thinking out loud.

I don't envy those who have to program for this site and others like it. You know the saying... "opinions are like !@#holes. Everyone's got one." Impossible to keep everyone happy. Not even close.

On a completely unrelated note, I've got to go take care of my newborn squirrel who fell at least 30 feet from my neighbor's tree yesterday morning. I'm not supposed to name him (according to my neighbor who is a vet tech and routinely rehabs wildlife), as I may as well be signing his death warrant by jinx if I do. However, I may or may not be cooing to him constantly and referring to him as Skerly.

Oh, P.S.: and there's always the accidental button push. Oh crap! Why did I do that!? I don't "like" this guy's recording of two raccoons mating in a garbage can, dammit! Thank God for "undo" buttons.

@ Bull - I understand your point, but I would still press for the option to "un-like" a project. What if I "like" a project that is a beautiful cowbell solo. Then...some maniac adds a doggone triangle and lyrics about eating babies, to which, the project owner LOVES it and features it. This would appear, to anyone who views those who "like" the project, that I now endorse using triangle! *shudder* I would immediately "un-like" the project in order to prevent such a calamitous conjuncture from creating confusion that could cause a catastrophe! No one should ever believe that I endorse triangles being used for anything other than doorstops!

Geez.
