Post Your Cover Tunes Here Sun, Aug 14, 2011 05:44 PM UTC - ByBrannon
I only recently learned cover tunes weren't allowed as public projects. So I am circumventing the rules and inviting others to join. I heard from a few people who wanted to post their own covers, so lets do it. Its all legit on SoundCloud. Just upload it, click "share." Copy the embed code and paste it in the comments of this blog.
I am all for doing covers, as long as were not trying to sell it. I know you can upload covers on you tube and a few other places. let's do it it's just for fun. with a rebel yell we cry more more more.
Hey Mini we talked about doing a Christmas album before. We need to hurry so the children have something to listen to when they open their presents. We must do this... ...FOR THE CHILDREN!!!
What I was doing before I joined Kompoz just copying music. i.e. listening to the original then copying each sound I could hear. Long winded but it kept me out of trouble. This was all done on my very old Yamaha MU80.

LIVING ON THE CEILING BLANCMANGE my recording of it using my Yamaha MU80 with vocals by leesharp
My copy of Blancmange - Living on the ceiling. I loved this band back in the 80's. I was quite chuffed with this as no quantise used all by hand which took an age to get close to good.
Recorded to a backing track with vocals a couple of years ago. Fun way to learn a song.

These are great! I have been considering allowing covers on Kompoz. Will this make Kompoz a better place? A different place? Will covers ruin the "new original music" spirit here? Or is that just a dreamers nonsense? Please weigh in.

The way that I feel about covers is this. Most bands at one time have done a cover. As far as everyone just doing covers I do not think it will happen. I think we all love creating our own tunes too much for that to happen.

No to cover on kompoz. if you want to do cover and dont want to buy a private track to do it, then open a site called Karoke Kompoz and let the Karoke singers/players do there thing over there and not here. Write your own music on kompoz

Karoke Rich? really?
I think covers are fun every now and then. The only thing I would worry about is that there would be a flood of them that are simply dupes of the original. I used to have a lot of fun transforming otherwise light songs to Hard Rock.
I lean towards yes with caution I suppose.

I am against covers on Kompoz. My personal ambition is to make original music and if covers were introduced, I am quite convinced there would be a lot of those made here, which would most likely make me lose interest.
Having playing covers for more years than I care to count, I consider 90% of all cover versions of songs pointless. Re-vamping an AlanŽ Jackson? song to Death Metal could be fun of course, but why on Kompoz? Kompoz is a fantastic place for creating music, and my personal preference is that it stays that way.
Start disagreeing with me in 3...2...1... now!

I'm in the "no" category as well, but it's not going to ruin things for me if there's a covers section either.
I'd probably never do one myself, nor would be inspired to join in on one, but then, who knows: there's some great KISS tunes off their first album that I'd love doing..."Cold Gin"...love that tune.

I have leaned away from yes and back towards no. There were a few things I hadn't considered. I do think there would be a flood of them. enough that the focus and purpose of the site would shift too far away from real creativity.

Cover tune Brannon? yea, if you like singing them, go over to the other sites or do them private on kompoz. keep this site original. probably the only original site left of the web. agree with Bjorn, covers are worthless. reason why you can not do them as private tracks LT?

I don't think there's anything wrong with covers.
Kompoz is a social network site..correct? Covers could be a very good way to break the ice and collaborate with others that enjoy the same bands or songs...it's turn key and it could lead to new working relationships. Playing covers doesn't make you a bad musician....good music is good music and talent is talent whether original or cover.

I'd vote NO to covers on Kompoz. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against them, and I've even done a few on icompositions.com.
What was happening was (and still is) after a while, that was all people seemed to gravitate towards. Simply because they're songs that everyone loves and knows. Sure we can re-vamp them, they'd still be covers though. Defeats the whole purpose of creating our own songs and being original.

no to covers unless they are unrecognisable, enhance the original in a new way, have taken a good deal of thought and their inception is to illustrate a point..OR if the person is bereft of creative juice..has hit bottom..because they can be a bit of fun..so in a medicinal context..maybe..

I would think that opening the can of worms that cover tunes represents would be a potentially huge pain in the ass for Raf. There may be some grey legal areas, but overall, there are plenty of licensing/copyright laws that apply which would inevitably come into play. That would not be good for Kompoz or the members who may possibly end up in the legal hot seat. Even one cease and desist order could be bad news. There are already a large number of images being used that are potential copyright infringements. While it may be prevalent all across the internet, that does not make it a good idea. While we are free to make personal choices regarding the usage of images, songs, samples, or software that may not be licensed on our own time and turf, we create a potential legal hassle for Raf if any of those things are carried over to Kompoz. It would seem much simpler just to avoid it altogether.

I say we stick to making our own material and leave the covers to youtube where my video game and movie themes are, covers are for fun......Kompozing is SERIOUS, lol (well kinda serious AND fun but still..)
look at it this way:
Yay, we played someone else's song a little different....woo
OR
check out this song that I co-wrote with people all over the world!!!
Johnny Cash did a great job covering Hurt by Nine Inch
Nails. If all covers took the heart and soul of the song and made it something
new, I'd say yes. Unfortunately, most would just be tired and uninteresting.
It would be alright to have a forum section where people
could recruit Kollaborators for private cover projects.
I might reconsider if these girls would join Kompoz.
