Got a minute? We're in the very early stages of organizing a Kompoz "meet-up". Kompozalooza? Kompozstock? Kompozfest? Please take a couple of minutes to fill-out our very short meet-up survey. It's only 8 questions, and it will help us gauge interest, choose a location, and plan activities.
Ready? Here's the survey:

I would think Las Vegas to be a pretty prime location compared to all the cities listed, but thats just me. Airfare from Tokyo alone is at least a grand!! I would love to show up though, but will depend on time of year and where I am in the world. Ahahah California is my favorite state?. and I am from the east, have live in all four corners and the middle. Was just an observation. I guess you mean most live in Europe as oppose to Asia.. I am spreading the word, I promise. No one in Japan has ever heard of Kompoz?.. at least until they meet me.

There's a potty rental establishment within about 2 miles of my home. I have a covered stage (it's a carport) and a pretty big yard.
There's an airport (OAJ) within 5 miles of my home... ask Cube, he's flown in there. In all likelihood, you'll arrive at gate 1A. Gate 1B hasn't been built yet.
35 minutes to the beach, 5 minutes from the nearest store of any kind. 20 minutes to a dozen or more hotels. Camp in the backyard at your own risk.
Now... don't anyone let my wife know about this. She'll kill me. Not that she might notice a bunch of strange musicians in the backyard.

The cities selected were ones that are somewhat "centered" from a travel time perspective for a group of users that are very active here, and each of them allow direct international access from Europe. Vegas and points west were considered too, but they raised the average travel expense and time too high.
The $1000 minimum was because when examining average airfares 6 months from now for a list of 20 active people on here it came out to $525. If the event was 3 days long then the remainder is $158/day. This seemed like the bare minimum amount at which someone could eat, drink, and stay at a hotel in the cities selected.
Marty's back yard would be excellent! The question is who among us has the guts to ask his wife for permission?

Fer chrissakes, guys, you are in the same country:) I will be there.
You won't even have to fill out the cretin-level questions in the US visa application ("did you have any connection to Nazi Germany" - I am not kidding, this question is asked), but I will do it with a smile on my face since I know I will FINALLY get a chance to meet Sven-Martin (and a bunch of other great guys)
So, let's do it!

There ya go, B2 has grasped the koncept, don't just talk, try actually being there? I have watched squabbling more than once, but have yet to see action from the land that gave us "just do it". Frankly, I think we are much better off organising in Europe or Asia where people actually do something. So... prove me wrong, goddamit and DO IT! I will eat a mediu sizedupright bass if you stop talking and get something done. I am provocative on purpose and I pray I won't have to say "see, they can't do it":)
Feel free to keep talking or, for a change, make it happen. I will be there.

good grief B1! you Swede's don't understand the American way! We "do" things all the time! We eat pizza, smoke stuff, drive our cars needlessly for hours, have endless arguments over important things like "Survivor", we even vote on "American Idol" (whatever that is). All this doing makes us tired and, yes, lazy. We need lots of naps. Give us time, maybe we'll wake up someday.

The conversation will lack in interest for a few hours. Its late in Manilla. B1 is fighting jetlag; laying with his eyes wide open, but succeeding in resisting his temptation to slight the U.S. B3 is napping upon this writing and I am prepping my nest for the Cowboy game. I'll nap interminably throughout the game and sleep like a log afterwords.
BTW: Survivor won't give me an audition. I'm over-medicated.

Brannon: yes, I have every confidence that this will be a great event, I only stirred things up a little to stimulate some good old American spirit "let's show them Europeans from Europe we do it much better" :). And, as promised, I will be there no matter which location is selected. I am also prepared to - for Lonnie - cook my Boef Bourgignon (and pronounce it for him), wash dishes, carry amplifiers or any other hand you may need lending of.
I am very much looking forward to this! :)

Some light entertainment, excerpt from the US visa application :):
"Have you ever been or are you now involved in espionage or sabotage; or in terrorist activities; or genocide; or between 1933 and 1945 were you involved, in any way, in persecutions associated with Nazi Germany or its allies?"
(hint: "yes" is not the ideal answer)

Joe's got a good point, tho. A very cool thing about the original Showdown was not only did we meet some great people and had some great times, but we got to visit a city with some great history and world import.
Marty's back yard... maybe not so much. New York, tho... the place where Russian Jews settled and created Tin Pan Alley, and the "American" musical and the Movie mogal motion picture industry. The Irish, the Italians, the Puerto Ricans... so much history... too bad it's not 1927...
I'm rambling... maybe that wasn't Joe's point...
Bjorn, that's just frickin crazy. The lawyer/politian/lobbyist that came up with that probably still wonders how he got that shit approved. "No... we can take them to court to establish he lied and, after like a year or 3 we can try him in military court and hang him right there. It's a win-win..."
You ain't one a them commynists er ya, there feller? What size shoe do you wear?

@Lonnie: it was a hard one to answer, you know "hmm I am not a terrorist per se, but I wonder exactly what they mean by genocide, should I tell them about that romanian incident back in 1947? No, wait they said until 1945. Phew"
I wear size 10, or in Asia 12 (same one), and I did once help an old lady across the street. Am I a commie? Help, Dr Lonnie, I am really worried now...
I have been to all the places suggested, I think except Sven-Martin's Cultural Heritage Super Special Historic Monument Back Yard (CHeSS-HiMBy for short).

@Carolyn: ah, I get it :). We got a fair few too after the 2nd world war (due to old shameful ties between our top industry men and German companies), but I believe we try them for crimes against humanity or send them off. Well, I shouldn't complain, I always get a good chuckle out of crossing "yes" on that question and watch the guys in black parachute down in my back yard :)
As another light entertainment, the only time I have almost been denied entry to the US was when I failed to fill out my middle initial (I don't have one, I have only one first name and one family name) in some form or the other - "Sir, you MUST fill in your middle initial" :). He had his hand on a very real looking gun. Hmmmm.
I kid, entering your United States nowadays is a breeze for us Europeans, the Visa application is filled out online and seems to be granted by default (lest you cross yes in that fatal question above) almost immediately. So, I will be there! :)

First: thanks to the wonderful saints who are organizing this! You will not hear pissing and moaning from me, as I believe that one of life's most annoying phenomena is the kvetcher who contributes nothing, but whines about the decisions made by planners. Sooo... that said, I will just add that I'm hoping for mid fall 12 at the earliest for the selfish reason that I'm hoping to have given birth by then and *maybe* no longer be the size of Wisconsin -- and for the unselfish reason that it gives international folks more time to save up and plan. Hmm... NY in October -- the gorgeous foliage...the crisp air... Also: WOOOOHOOOOO!!!! 8-)
