Passwords Are So 'Last Week'

One of the cool things to come out of the whole online 'Social Networking' movement has been the invention and widespread adoption of OAuth. OAuth is an open standard for site authorization. Among other things, it allows users to manage one set of credentials (user name and password) and use those credentials for logging into sharing information with other sites.
Kompoz has, for some time, supported Facebook as a single sign-on (SSO) provider. As of last night, we now also support Dropbox, Foursquare, Google, and Twitter. This means that if you have an account on one of those sites, you can now use that account to log into Kompoz.
Why is this cool? Well, for one thing, it means you don't have to remember yet another password. Use your favorite social networking site user name and password to log into Kompoz. It also means that you can bypass that annoying CAPTCHA field that appears on the Kompoz login page.
But more importantly, we will be rolling out some very cool features based on these sites. For example, very shortly, we will be adding the ability to download Kompoz tracks directly to your Dropbox acount. And because Dropbox allows you to access the files directly from your file system (acts like a mapped drive on Windows and Mac), you will be able to drag those directly into your DAW.
If you're already a Kompoz member, you can link your social networking sites to your existing Kompoz profile by going to your My Account page. If you're thinking about joining Kompoz as a new member, you can sign up quickly using one of the new OAuth links. |

bear in mind that last week you were working hard to fix the database on the site; one of the fundamentals.
being ambitious is all very well, but what are you hoping to achieve with this? (thats a straightforward question..not meant to be nasty or rhetorical)

Well, the database issue was resolved. Done. Check.
This new feature is the first-step towards some awesome enhancements. The Dropbox download mentioned in the blog is a hint towards that. It's just the start. As you know, the Kompoz upload process is still... spotty. Imagine being able to upload and download to/from your cloud drive (Dropbox is just one of a few great solutions).

I like this direction, Raf. It is a clear step away from "re-inventing the wheel" and I think especially the dropbox feature will be very useful. The performance issues seem to indeed be solved, and although I know there is a bit of a backlog off feature requests, this still makes a lot of sense to me. As I was going to say when you so arrogantly refused to put away your latte and pick up the phone, we love ya!

thanks Raf. i get the impression you are trying to improve the ability to add tracks on kompoz using what you see as the superior upload capabilites of external apps..is this right?
PS: would you classify yourself a Barrista now? ..you know thats a dirty word in some parts right? :)

Kinda. Many people use file cloud-based sharing services like Dropbox and Google Drive. So, it makes sense to provide a way to move Kompoz tracks to/from those services.

I already shared some Dropbox folders with other Kompozers for different projects here. I use it everyday between work and home.
It's maybe a good idea or a bad one but why keep all the audition tracks an eternity...
