  Kompoz Uploader (Windows)
Fri, Jun 29, 2012 • 11:34 PM UTC - By raf

The amazing Craig Steen has created an application for Windows that makes uplading new tracks easy.  The application, named Kompoz Konsole, was created by his company, Flagship Computing, using the Kompoz API.  Konsole is super easy to use, very reliable, and lightening fast.

And if you are a Kompoz PLUS member, it is yours to use for free.

Kompoz Konsole for Windows

The app comes complete with a professional installation program.  You'll also find a Quick Start PDF file included in the download file.  Unzip the contents, run the installer, and start uploading.

Craig invested countless hours building this application, with no proding from me.  I can't thank him enough for his contributions to the collaboration community.  Give it a shot and send him a big thank you.  If you're not already a PLUS members, this application alone is worth the price of admission.

Download Konsole Now

This application is for Windows users only.  Kompoz is currently developing a Mac application, which should be ready for general release mid-July.

Thanks folks!
It was really a team effort between two of us here, and Raf.

It's something that I've wanted to do for a long time, and that I find very handy when I have lots of seps to upload at once.

I guess the big differences between this and the web uploader are that:
.:. You can upload any number of files at once.
.:. You can preview your seps before you upload them (just in case!).
.:. You can upload to multiple projects at the same time.
.:. Once you start the upload, the tracks will be added to project and be available straight away - there's no second step to pick track type or comments - You do that before you start.

It works well if you have a lot of files and you want to upload them overnight, or start them uploading in the morning before you have to leave for work.

I'd be interested to know how many of you find this useful.....Oh, and it's definitely easy to use - Remember, I'm a drummer.

:)

As a mac user i can only say that this looks really fantastic ! To upload files in this way is really a good thing !
A big compliment to Craig and all who have work on this !
When the Mac Application gets only half so good as this then i would be a super duper mega happy person and very thankful !!!

Thanks Minime!

I know it's not the same, but some of the Kompoz Army got this working with VMWare / Windows on the Mac. Not sure if that approach might tide you over until the native Mac version?
You can see some of the posts here if you're interested. Otherwise, Raf's Mac version will be here soon!

Thanks again folks! One of the cooler /geeky things about the app is that it uploads directly to the Amazon S3 storage rather than uploading to the Kompoz web servers. So, the more people that upload from their desktop, the less load there is on the Kompoz infrastructure.
That's got to be a good thing, right?

Yep, check out the Developr API link at the very bottom right in every page footer. :) there's some cool stuff in there. It's clear that Raf has put a lot of work in opening up Kompoz to the world. It seems to be gathering momentum all of a sudden! :)

@Phoephus,

That's an interesting one. I’ve had a bit of a play around this morning and I’ve not been able to replicate the problem (I tested uploading 3 tracks to two projects, and they arrived as expected in the 2 projects – not all in one). Perhaps you could spare some time to help us get to the bottom of this?

Firstly, to get the “gotchas” out of the way:
On the bottom of page 13 in the Quick Start document, there’s an example screen shot of files being uploaded to two different projects. You can see that they have a tiny thumbnail for the project that the track is being uploaded to. If you hover over the thumbnail, it tells you the project name:

To recap, the process to upload to multiple projects is:
1. Search for “Project A” then select it in the list.
2. In the project details pane at the bottom, Browse for the files you’re looking for.
3. Click the Add To Upload List once you are happy with the Comments / Track types for those files.
4. The files should appear in the Upload List (on the right) with the album art (the tiny thumbnail).
5. Search again for “Project B”, or select it if it is already in the list.
6. Again, in the project details pane at the bottom, browse for the files you’re looking for.
7. Click the Add To Upload List once Comments / Track types have been set for those files.
8. The tracks should also appear in the Upload List (on the right) underneath the files you have already added for Project A. Project A files should have Project A artwork (thumbnails) and Project B files should have Project B artwork.

The screenshot below is from the test I did this morning. Hopefully, you can see in the upload list how 1 file is set to upload to one project, and 2 files are set to upload to the other:

And the results looked like this after the upload:

If you get the chance to have another go, then do check out the project art work and track name (by hovering over the artwork in the upload list as in the above diagram) before you start the upload process – just to triple-check!!

If that all looks as it should, but you’re still having problems, or you’re seeing something different after following this process then do give me shout. It would be really helpful if you could upload some screen shots of Konsole during the next upload, and the then also some screen shots of the project on Kompoz after the upload. We’ll then be able to get a better idea of what’s going on.

Thanks for taking the time to post and please do let us know how you get on!

Craig

@Craig,I will have another go once I have another batch of files to upload.

Here is what I did:
I uploaded 10 files to 2 projects(5 each). One project was just created by me and had no other tracks loaded yet, the other was another member's that I had already joined. I didn't have to search since they were both in my projects list. I clicked on the new project, selected the batch of files clicked open and set their assignments then added to down loads. Then I clicked on the other member's project and repeated the process. Then I clicked the agree to copyright box and started the upload and they all ended up in the new project.

Hi Phoephus,
Thanks for the info.
We've been testing this most of the morning and we can't replicate the problem, so it would be great to get screen shots of the Upload List next time. It would also be handy if you could include the Terms And Conditions Pop-Up window if possible - just before you upload.

The Ts & Cs pop-up lists the projects you are about to upload to, so again, it's just another way to help us double check what's going on.

Thanks again,

Craig

Hello all!

In a quest to save everyone's Page Down keys, I've just set up a group called www.kompoz.com/site/Konsole. If you want to, you can post new topics, questions and feedback there in a slightly more structured way.

We'll do all we can from this end to answer your questions, and keep you uploading from the comfort of your desktop! :)

Cheers,

Craig

Thanks very much Luke!
Appreciate the "Man Love" too :D

Don't forget you can use this to upload seps for multiple projects at the same time if you need too. Maybe useful if uploading a few vox "touch ups" to several Spine projects during the final mixing phase.

It works well "unattended" if you start the upload for a great load of wavs then go to the pub / bed (tick as appropriate).
