  Amazon AWS Outage
Sat, Jun 30, 2012 • 04:28 PM UTC - By raf

Kompoz.com is hosted in the mighty Amazon Cloud.  Amazon provides nearly unlimited computing capacity and storage.  Many large sites, such as Netflix, Instagram, Pinterest, Foursquare (and many many others) rely on Amazon's infrasture.

But even the mighty Amazon Cloud is sometimes no match for Mother Nature.  Yesterday, a large electrical storm in the Virginia area has resulted in power interruptions.  Kompoz and many of the sites I just listed have had issues.  Amazon refers to these issues using words like "elevated error rates" and "temporary connectivity issues".  I just say "Oh damn!"

Service seems to be back to normal, but may be spotty for a little while.  Welcome to the Cloud.

Thanks for the info, Raf. I ran into some page loading delays and was wondering why. This explains it! All seems to be fine now.

I was without power for three days.

Bummer.

It was one of the most impressive wind storms I've ever seen.

Just like a hurricane....

Are there still probs with AWS services ? Every other page seems to hang when loading.

None that I am aware of. All seems ok from this side of the pond.

Maybe my ISP is under water! Just odd that every 2nd or 3rd page seems to hang halfway thru loading the menu bar. If it gets stuck and I hit f5 then it loads straight away ... Nuts! If nobody else is seeing this then, it's not you, it's me!!

[EDIT] OK - Just changed my DNS settings - I was previously using google's 8.8.8.8 but have reverted back to my ISP's own settings - all seems better now. Sorry for the disruption!

It will be not wrong if we say Amazon is the parent site for many sites, since there are many sites which may rely on it.

(RUG LINK REMOVED! SORRY EVERYONE)
