  Hand Made Basses from Italy
Sun, Jul 15, 2012 • 02:34 PM UTC - By Quadri

Hi Kompozers,

A friend of mine, Mr Pierluigi Cazzola asked me a favour. He makes hand-made basses. His company is LAURUS and he's looking for shops abroad that sells hand made basses.

So here I am to ask you : " Does in your country there are shops that sells not just commercial basses like fender, gibson, ibanez ecc... but sells also hand made basses? "

I really appreciate if you can send me links of that shops so we can contact them.

Here is my friend:

and here's one of his beautiful creations:

Here you can find some videos of the bass: http://www.quadriproject.com/wp/?p=6317

I am with you Peter! I did listen to the videos particularly the one with the fretless. Player was very good but the sound of the bass was excellent.

Interesting take on the headstock style as well. I don't know much about the double ball system never having own one but it sounds good...just wish I could play one.

Cool stuff Quadzilla!

Hi Mark.

I am currently at work where I have zero access to video playback.

That is why I think they should send me one of each just to try.

Cool stuff indeed.

Most of the high end boutique shops I frequent are leery of the hand made shop instruments. Not because of any design or quality issue, but rather the overall costs usually associated with those. The shops I deal with typically don't want to carry anything that runs over say $3500 US because they can't move them fast enough, and also there can be import issue depending upon the woods being used.

That said, one of the better high end boutique shops in the New England area of the US is The Axe Palace.

I've talked to the owner, Nick, about carrying Oni guitars and the like, so I know where his price points are. I bought my mojo from him, and a bunch of other stuff.

A friend of mine has a shop for boutique basses in Singapore. Those basses look like they might be a good fit. You can find him at: http://www.facebook.com/bassfreq.sg http://bassfreq.com.sg/

I have to say that in China, there are not so many boutique basses. It will be hard to find a vendor here.
