To celebrate 2000, I took leave from a career in HR/LR to write and I've been doing that since. At the end of the first year, I won the USA Songwriting Contest in the lyric category for 'Drum Machines and Beauty Queens.' This led to co-writing with many musicians and having nine songs published.
I've had good luck in other contests too, including second in the singer-songwriter category of the 2002 Dallas Songwriters' Contest for 'Belfast Novels' and being one of ten finalists in the 2002 USA Contest for 'I Should Have Stayed.'
Recently, I was one of seven finalists in the Crisis Lyric Category of the 2021 UK Songwriting Contest for 'Lockdown Blues,' and one of nine nominees in the 2021 International Song Awards with 'Didn't the River Know' and 'Blue and Gold.'
I also write novels, plays, poems, and short stories. My two most recent publications are middle-grade action novels The Comeback (2020) and The Playmaker (2019), both in the James Lorimer Sports Stories series.

It would be cool to find musicians to bring my lyrics to life. I have a vast inventory, over a thousand. Although my influences are the great lyricists of the classic rock period, I am hoping for a modern sound. I'm also looking forward to joining other collaborations and working with the many talented musicians on this site.
Note: When I'm writing lyrics to someone else's music track, I like to have the melody line delineated by an instrument or a dummy guide vocal. It also helps if the musician indicates the timing where each verse, chorus, and bridge begins and ends.

MIX IT UP WITH THE BLUES: My first collab on Kompoz! PJ Lucidi composed a wonderful blues-rock track with blistering lead guitar, Hollie Olson wrote and sang a cool, fun, and soulful melody, and Roberto Rabosio and Mario Licata brought the rhythm. All this was mixed magnificently by Steffen O.

THE WAY BACK HOME: Whitman Rinaldo requested a 'Who-inspired' lyric for this arena-rocker and with Pete Townsend being one of my greatest influences I did my best to supply one! Nigel Robinson took on the Keith Moon role on drums.

AS LONG AS I CAN HEAR THE MUSIC: Joe (WeedOn) created a gorgeous arrangement and vocal melody for this Celtic-Folk song. The multi-talented James Fraser added penny whistle, mandolin, and bouzouki, and Miguel Bella played harmonica. Steffen O again mixed everything together beautifully.

PROPHET OF DOOM: A rocker with a cool vibe! Stephane laid down a brilliant track, Brent's vocal embodied prophecies of doom, Alex the drummer brought extra energy, and Francois cut loose with a blistering solo. To top it off, John Lennon made a special appearance!
