I first became aware of music when I listened to my dad's Queen and Deep Purple collection but always felt that something was missing from these bands, like they could be heavier and faster. Thus, in my early teenage years I moved on to Kiss, Scorpions, AC/DC, WASP, and some of the NWOBHM bands, but again the heaviness was missing...so I progressed over to things heavier and faster, Slayer, Metallica, Sodom, Kreator, Destruction...all the way to Napalm Death...then I discovered the melody was missing...so I tuned it down a notch and have to say that even to this day some of my all time favorites are Carcass (Heartwork), At The Gates (Terminal Spirit Disease), Exodus (Tempo of the Damned), Coroner (Mental Vortex, Grin).
Since my teenage years I've diversified my tastes to include some lighter listening, currently am fan of Joe Bonamassa, especially on his collaborations with Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham (Black Country Communion). Some jazz, gypsy swing, experimental, instrumental music, etc.
Can't say I like much of the music produced in the 90s or 2000s, especially on the pop side of things and don't really have respect to karaoke singing (rap music).
Most of the time you can catch me listening to a 60s or 70s rock and hard rock LPs as I feel some of the music produced in that period contains some of the best performances and the technology was sophisticated enough to capture a good sound and primitive enough to prohibit much fakery (auto-tune, comping, etc.), so thus we are left usually with really good performances.
Some of my favorite artists in no particular order:
Tommi Vetterli (Coroner)
Ronnie James Dio
Andy Laroque (King Diamond)
Garry Moore
Ihsahn (Emperor)
Joe Bonamassa
Kirk Hammett (pre-wah era)
Roger Waters
David Gilmour
Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Adrian Murray (Iron Maiden)
Chuck Schuldiner
Lhasa De Sela
Adrian Erlandsson (Arch Enemy)
Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy)
Angelo Debarre
Chris and Michael Amott
Uli Jon Roth
Yngwie Malmsteen
Joe Satriani
Jaco Pastorius
Mikael Akerfeldt
Tom G. Warrier (Celtic Frost, Tryptikon, Hellhammer)
Chronos (Venom)
Frank Zappa
Quorthon (Bathory)
Al DiMeola
Jeff Waters (Annihilator)
Denner and Shermann (Mercyful Fate)
Gonzalo Bergara
... and the list goes on.
One thing that I particularly dislike is SCHLOCK, so unless you really have something original and are just painting by numbers, you can refrain from contacting me.
