Help Wanted Page and Collaboration Settings

Today we rolled out a new Help Wanted page, which features collaborations filtered by Talents Needed. The new page is the official landing page (default page) accessed from the Collaborations link in the main site toolbar and sidebar.  This means that it has been given top positioning within the site, and replaces the previous Featured Collaborations page (which was manually updated and often outdated).  The goal of the page is to better showcase new and in-progress collaborations, and to effectively address an age-old Kompoz problem: finding collaborations to work on.

Help Wanted

The Help Wanted page lists musical instruments (talents) on the left, along with a counter showing the number of collaborations that are seeking help (tracks) of those types.  If you're logged in and have talents listed on your profile, the page shows those talents at the top, making it easy for you to find collaborations that are seeking your talents.  Clicking on a talent will display a list of collaborations to the right.

To have your collaboration listed on the page, simply edit the Talents Needed for your collaboration.  When you add a needed talent to your collaboration, the system will timestamp it, and add your collaboration to the list.  Users can sort the list based on the timestamp, or the default which factors in the timestamp and also other factors that define how engaged or active the collaboration owner is.

Help Wanted

Now, with this new feature, the system will automatically expire listings after 30 days.  This is a big change for Kompoz!  Previously, collaborations with talents listed a year ago would have equal weight in search results with projects having more recently listed talents-needed.  This made it difficult to find collaborations with recent requests for a specific track type.  The system will now expire requests for older listings, but it will first send out up to three email reminders to the collaboration owner, notifying the owner that the listing is about to expire, and that it can be re-listed.  Re-listing is easy, and will bump the collaboration back up to the top of the sort list.  Expired listings will simply be excluded from search results.

Email reminder

Sample reminder email.

As noted above, listings have a 30 day period.  Kompoz members on the free plan can re-list a talent after 27 days.  Plus and Premier members can re-list after 14 days.  And Pro members can re-list after 10 days.  We may change those numbers as we see how the system performs.  Again, re-listing a talent will bump your collaboration back up towards the top of the Help Wanted page for that specific talent.

On the collaboration page, we'll also show a summary of the talents needed, along with the time and date it was posted, and the number of tracks already submitted of that type (if any).  This gives everyone a clear picture of the status of the project, and the engagement of the collaboration owner.  It's important to keep your collaboration current, accept or archive uploads, and communicate with your collaborators.  These recent changes are one step towards helping with those goals.

If you click the small arrow next to the talent, it will then show you all of the genres for collaborations seeking that talent.

When on 'recently listed' tab ... if I check out a project then click the back button to go back to the list it defaults to 'recommended'. Can this be changed to stay on the category I want to be on? Also, can there be a way to hide the side-bar? When using my Kindle Fire tablet it obscures part of the page so that it can't be fully read. Otherwise ... great changes.

OK , so after a little getting used to, I think the "recommended" tab works very well, and is a very useful feature. But, the "recently listed" tab isn't working well. I feel it's very important that we have a way to check out the most recently uploaded projects. It's really cool that we can check them out by talent needed.... But it's broken. Quite a few projects listed in the "recently listed" tab were created months, even years ago... Shouldn't the "recently listed" be posted in chronological order, with the most recent first? good job though, it just needs some fine tuning ;)

If you click through to the project, you should see (on the project dashboard tab) that the "Talent Needed" as a recent post date. Here's an example of a seemingly "old" project, but you'll notice that the project owner re-listed the talents needed (because they're still needed). http://https://www.kompoz.com/music/collaboration/483975 The project owner received an email last night stating that it was going to expire. The owner then acted and re-listed -- the system appears to be working as designed! This is exciting. The system makes it possible for older projects that are still active an in need of help to get back up in the search results.

Makes sense, talent is still needed, and the project owner proved his activity by clicking on the renew button I agree wholeheartedly with the reasoning here ;) It brings a new life to old collabs.

Thanks. It is an issue of the current network I'm using, I think.

Looks like there is a bug on the new Help Wanted page that might be the cause: If you play a track, then click on a Talent Needed or Genre without first stopping the track that is currently playing, then subsequent plays are not working. The quick workaround is to make sure you STOP playing before switching to a different Talent Needed. I'll investigate a fix now.

Thank you Raf :) I just added a suggestion on a totally different area in the community page (not sure if feedback page still works) hmm maybe I shouldve put it here

BTW -- notifications from my iphone have disappeared. I am assuming you all know about that and will fix it because if we don't get notifications we won't be responding to comments or new tracks.

:) Love this idea. Just what I've wanted. However. Is there a way you could look at this code? The little arrow.... For me it's a link that is unnamed! Clicking that gives me nothing. I can find the list by searching for a word in that list, such as "alternative". So I assume it's a separate frame. The problem is that the screenreader doesn't know it and I found it by luck. It's not really user friendly for me. Second problem is that all the songs have the H tag but nothing else on the page does. It's a bitch to navigate. Other than that; fantastic, love it. Thoughts? This is a page I'll be using alot so it is a bit off for me as it is now.

Oh, and I don't know if this is related or not but I can't seem to stop playback once it plays. I have to shut down the browser window. This could be my system but I thought I'd mention it here and it started today so...

If there was an option to select ALL talents (or none), then the 'recently listed' tab could show ALL new projects for those that just want to see the newest ones regardless of talent wanted.

With all the great new fixes, I miss one thing: the dropdown with most recent tracks visited. I know - I can get a page but I have to replace the one I'm viewing to do that: that old feature was great because I could drop the list, and then right click open in new tab. Can we get that back?

It's not as easy as it should be. There's a post right now pinned on the community page from JoeySix about this issue - it's worth a read.

It used to be possible to look for songs written in a particular genre, no I can't seem to find it. For example I would like to find some vocals for electronics music, when you click on vocals you only get the songs, missing vocals in all genres. Anyone knows how to do this?
