Creative Brief

This is a song I've been working on for several months now. It is meant to be a beautiful folk ballad with some interesting lyrics based on the concept of a dream or a myth where  elements of nature are personified to explain a beautiful sunrise over a dew drenched meadow in the middle of a forest.

I would like to see it done as a male/female duet. I have a simple acoustic accompaniment and I am singing it the  best I can, but I need better singers and better musicians. I would like to see guitar - rhythm and lead, mandolin, violin/strings, bass, some kind of percussion but low key, and keyboards - also low key.

Lyrics and chords:

Title - Nightbreeze

C

In a distant forest meadow

Em

When sunrise overcomes the night

C

Long grasses wave in a gentle breeze

Em

Dewdrops shine in dawn’s first light

F

Alone there lives a lovely maiden

G

Ever young, but ancient too

F

She’s bound forever to the meadow,

G

She calls herself Morningdew

Dm

One evening her heart beats faster

Am

To see a lad with grace and charm

Dm

He sweeps across her secret meadow

G

Frolics there but does no harm

C

Morningdew looks in wonder

Am

Asks him sweetly for his name

Dm

Nightbreeze he laughs gently

Em

Then dances off the way he came

Chorus:

C

Nightbreeze where are you going (female)

Dm

Nightbreeze don’t go away (female)

Em

Nightbreeze in the morning (female)

G

Nightbreeze why can’t you stay (female)

F

Morningdew day is coming (male)

G

Morningdew I must run (male)

F

Morningdew I hear you calling (male)

G

Morningdew I flee the sun (male)

C

Nightbreeze, so quick and clever,

Em

Always laughing, like a child

C

He roams beneath moon and stars

Em

Forever flying, running wild

F

When the evening shadows gather

G

Between giant forest trees

F

Air starts flowing, power growing

G

Into the meadow slips Nightbreeze

C

He is a shimmering current

Em

Combing through tall grass blades

C

Rippling patterns, silver starlight

Em

Flickering shadows, restless shades

C

As he leaves the moonlit meadow

Am

Morningdew dreams of wings

Dm

She shivers at his last soft touch

Em

Tears flow as she sadly sings

Chorus:

C

Nightbreeze where are you going (female)

Dm

Nightbreeze don’t go away (female)

Em

Nightbreeze in the morning (female)

G

Nightbreeze why can’t you stay (female)

F

Morningdew day is coming (male)

G

Morningdew I must run (male)

F

Morningdew I hear you calling (male)

G

Morningdew I flee the sun (male)

Dm

at the edge of breaking dawn

Am

when birds begin to play

Dm

love whispers through the grasses

Am

but lonely teardrops greet the day.

C

Nightbreeze where are you going (female)

Morningdew day is coming (male)
