This is a VOCAL-LESS track of the current state of the instrumental mix. It is NOT the final mix by any means..... I'm still working on it. But it is closer to a final mix than other vocal-less versions here.

Lovely mix John; all the right bits are present just in the right way and at the right times. Only a very fine ear and very sound musical judgment can arrive at such a result. Very nice indeed! Just as a consideration, might it be possible to hear the drums just a "wee" bit more during the chorus to which the music builds slowly over most of the track? Just a thought eh? :-) R

Richard, Thank you, Richard. 'Back in the day' I did do some producer/mixing work. And I'm always open to considering suggestions on the mix/master or anything else. So...... feel free to suggest. Addressing the drums a bit was already my plan........ so "good ears" on your part also. (And thanks for the kind words.) Actually I think I mentioned this elsewhere in one of the threads...... I'm planning on doing a "punch in" on the last part of the piece and re-doing the drums a bit there to help "build". Just haven't gotten there yet. I think they are OK on the front end....... just needing "more" as you say as the music builds later on. The original guitar track I was laying the drums down to was the finger-picking midi type thing I uploaded and we started out with (thankfully long gone now)..... and I made the decision then to go side-stick on the snare for most of it. That idea also fits the "mood" of the lyrics, I think. At the one point that original guitar track did build up a bit... and I did go to full snare hits there for a short bit..... but then I backed off to side-stick again from there to the end. Now there is more buildup. I need to go back and do more full snare hits. I'll likely change some of the cymbal work also. I'm still playing with some of the great 'ping-pong' ambient effects you did. They currently sound great on my studio monitor speakers.... but are still a little distracting on my mixing SM headphones. But if I simply drop the level, it just gets lost in the mix. I haven't checked phase issues yet... but that is next on my checklist. I hate having to balance mixes back and forth for speakers, headphones, car stereos, and earbuds. What sounds fine on one output... sounds crappy on another. Drives me crazy. best,....................john

John, I just reissued the ambient in 3 separate tracks. I initially sent you an "all in one" ambient track which would be difficult, I appreciate, to control and temper to taste. There is no panning in reissues 1-2-3 and I removed the plugin, used at one point in one of the tracks, which is likely responsible for the "ping-pong" effect to which you referred. They are uploaded now should you wish to use these. :-) Best Richard

Richard...... I'm sorry if you got the wrong impression there from me. My bad. The "ping pong" effect is GREAT. I just need to "tame it" a bit in this particular mix so that it doesn't "take over". I've used those stereo effects you had already put on the original tracks very deliberately. No need to remove them unless YOU want them out of there. I think they are working.... I just have to fine tune to get it all "right". Those cross channel fades and movement open up the mix a bit. I also like the panning locations you chose on the originals.......... they work....at least for me. So unless you want them changed... I think they are fine. I'll see if there is any benefit to the new separated tracks being replaces into things for the mix. But I don't think it needs much to be changed from where it was. We're into "the devil is in the details" range. It will definitely help if I can't tame the 'ping pong'........ I can just easily edit in the same sounds with no effect. HOWEVER....... you are magically ahead of me on one aspect here. I was going to ask you about a particular effect I have possible on a guitar riff at one point, and the new "dry" track will make it easier for me to give you a demo of that idea for a yes/no approval. I'm not sure if it will work with the song yet.... but think it might. Should be pretty "distinctive". Sorry if I created more work for you with my comments. best,.........................john

Guys, I apologize for having taken so long to act. I was on trips for almost two months and returned at dawn to my home. I've already sent the link to Susan, don't be in a hurry as Susan has a large family that needs attention, but don't worry she will do the best we can get. Hugs!
