Thanks Mark.... I actually have over the past 30 years tried very hard not to get swayed into writing songs that resemble Pink Floyd out of respect since they are my favorite band, but this one was a total accident... I was playing with some synth progressions, and next thing you see I am adding astronauts, and it just got out of control... You never collaborated on guitar on any of my songs. This could be a cool one for you to lay a guitar track. I won't do a lead because I am not worthy to emulate David Gilmour. One has to know his place...

Ha I hear you. I do breathe and comfortably numb in my acoustic set. Might dust it off for this one ;)

SACRILEGE!!!! I am a true believer that Beatles and Pink Floyd should never be covered.... But that is just me... I guess I am too die hard of a fan... David Gilmour is far from the most challenging guitarist to emulate, but more than his playing I respect his song writing abilities. I know that I can play probably a handful of their songs with little or no practice, but deep inside I know I didn't write the song, so I get no pleasure off it. So I just resign myself to listening to them. The Beatles I don't really care about their music, but I do care about what they represent a rock and roll. At this point in history, their music is secondary to their contribution to rock and roll IMO.

There is room for everyone Joe is doing the first 32 measures and Billy is doing the last 32 measures. You can do anything in between and rather than emulating David Gilmour I am going to take either on Catherine Wheel's Robin Dickinson, or Marillion's Steve Rothery approach. That way I keep it real and don't break myself imposed rule of never emulating David Gilmour. I just love the guy too much. He is the reason why I picked a guitar in the first place. That is something one can never forget.

There is a crazy change I do there 1/3 into the song. I still haven made up my mind if it fits or not. Being that is a Psychedelic song who gives a flip right? Psychedelic music is notorious for not really following any rules of chord progressions, but I am curious to hear from a pro if it is correct. I went from F G# C G# for the meat of the song and then I threw a C A G F there in the mix, and just added tons of Reverb, Phaser, Flanger and Chorus. I split the track in two, and panned one hard left with just distortion, and the other one loaded with FX I panned hard left...

This is so cool and creative. Reminds me of when I went to see the Pink Floyd laser show at Griffith Observatory. =)
