I've had a chance to download the files for this lovely song with it's atmospheric ambient elements, and Alice's great vocals, and I've spent some time doing a mix.
If you have any comments about the levels or tones of the mix, then let me know.
It was/is quite a challenge to mix, in particular the last louder section towards the end of the song, but I'm learning a lot from doing it!
As most of the seps already had ambient echo/reverb effects on them I used reverb/echo on Alice's vocals, and a bit on Nick's drums.
Hope you like it. I may be able to refine the mix a bit with some more work.
Sounds great to me! :)
I really love this, has a very theatrical feeling, Alice voice sounds so great... :)
Alex & Alice,
You both put in some really good work on this song..
I really like the ambient tones used and the melodies and harmonies you've created. Also the sense of dynamics and flow.
What a fab job you have done here very as you said atmospheric and also Kate bushy and drama. Those vocals sound lovely and clear.
You certainly for me did a great job on the drum tracks as My live drums here aren?t a patch on the drum recordings now available with Sd3, in fact I?m looking to re recording some of my old takes and bring them up to date.
Thank you for your time and effort on this l?m sure it was probably your biggest test on the mixing front so far!
If I had a dollar for every time someone mentioned Kate Bush re my singing....LOL!
Ok Alice I?ll change it to goldfrapp !
There's another singer I'm not very familiar with...I'll have to look them both up one of these days!
I think I can make the mix a bit better. The reverb on the piano sounds great on the quiet sections, but muddies the mix in the louder sections. I think I can address that with a plugin i'm demoing. So i will probably post up another mix soon.
Yes, the acoustic drums posed some sonic issues and SD3 is certainly easier to mix. Good luck re-recording your pre-SD3, older tracks.
