9/13, new version. Sounds a lot cleaner to me, but my hearing sucks, so...comments welcome. Faron

Faron, this sounds better than your first version, in my opinion. Curious to hear this with Daniel's bass line mixed in. Just one suggestion: I think the HiHat ist a bit too prominent throughout the song. Dom

On the hi-hat- I see (hear) what you mean, it kind of comes and goes, and when it comes, it's a little too much there. I'll work on that. I'm also working on a mix with Dan's bass line, should be able to get one up before too much longer. If you (or, really, anyone else) would like to take a stab at a mix, I wouldn't mind- it's definitely something I struggle with. I know it's not the best scenario for mixing, since my bed track doesn't have the guitars separated, and a time-keeper drum that can't be deleted- overall, kind of a mess. But maybe someone better than me at the engineering thing can salvage it. I dunno- eventually I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and re-do all the guitars, I know. That's unfortunately down the road a bit. Thanks for the time and effort. Faron

Ah, now I get it. You have your lead drum track running along with the "live" drums? That would probably explain certain things like the strange off-time snare drums at the beginning I couldn't quite wrap my head around :-) I agree, in that case I guess it would be best you grab your axe and do it all over again :-) Gives you way more flexibility in the mix when you have the two guitar tracks separated. Pretty much, yeah. I originally recorded the thing on a Boss BR1600, using an onboard drum machine as a time keeper (I have a tendency to speed up/slow down in my playing without one). I think I recorded four or five separate guitar tracks over that beat, then mixed it all down and burned it, with the beat, as a .wav to CD, then transferred that file to Reaper, where everything else is fit on top. So the off-time snare at the beginning is down to that (it was worse to begin with, I had to nudge bits around like crazy), and I can't get rid of that underlying drum track. I've tried to mask it as best I could, but it's still there. And I don't have access to the BR1600 right now to retrieve the guitar files separately- that would be my first impulse, even though the thing's a dinosaur and it would take forever to get them, just a really slow processor. It would probably be faster just to replay all the parts. So, yeah...re-recording is definitely in the cards. Fortunately, I remember how to play it, I occasionally go back and play the different parts along with the file in Reaper. Can't say that about all my tunes- there's a couple of them that I've listened to and thought, "wait, what the hell did I do there?" and try to play it and have forgotten how. Faron
