Caught in the System
(Verse 1)
I’ve worked hard all my days
Nothing good’s come of it
Stuck in this life of grime
Kept down, can’t escape from it.
(Verse 2)
Pretty pictures in a box
I found them in Mother’s house
She’s now resting in the ground
I work my way through all I found
(Verse 3)
There’s a woman on a boat
Crying children by her side
I found a letter that she wrote
Back in Nineteen thirty five
(Verse 4)
I read the words off the page
A different time, another age
But I recognise the pain
Of having nothin’, endless days
(Chorus)
We’re all caught in the system
The system’s got us beat
Merely processed, will you listen?
Our enslavement is complete
(Verse 5)
Yeah, we work hard all our days
Nothing good comes of it
Stuck in this life of grime
Kept down, can’t escape from it
(Verse 6)
Pretty pictures in a box
I found them in Mother’s house
She’s now resting in the ground
I work my way through all I found
(Verse 7)
Gran was that woman on the boat
Crying children by her side
Mother was only five years old
Back in Nineteen thirty five
(Verse 8)
I read the words off the page
A different time, another age
But I recognise the rage
Of having nothin’, endless days
(Chorus)
We’re all caught in the system
The system’s got us beat
Merely processed, will you listen?
Our enslavement is complete
