This was such a great surprise to receive Ellen's vocals today! I think they're a perfect fit - whatcha think guys? :)
Oh and let me know how you feel about the vocals in the mix and the mix in general! This session has so much going on it's completely crazy!
I wanna dance!!!
You and me both! :D
I love the vocals. They?re a bit loud in the mix though (as is the organ in the bridge). Do you mind if I take a shot at mixing this one? Seems like a challenge with so much going on!
Great that you like the vocals too! :)
I don't mind in general, but if there are only a few details to fix on this one then I would say that we fix that instead of starting from scratch with a new mix. I can have my seps up tomorrow evening if you want? :)
Oh and there's a new version up now :)
The new version is certainly better in my opinion. You?re right about keeping one mix. It?s just my reflex to want to change things instead of finding the right words to give feedback :)
Yeah I understand that :)
Well, then let's see if I can get us where we want to be, given feedback from you guys. If for some reason people are still not happy then we can look into our other options - sounds good? :)
There are a few things that I'd like you improve in the mix, such as:
Drums sound a bit low-fi in the intro.
Control the energy level a bit better from verse to chorus to get a better kick.
Ride the vocals a bit as they're dipping down a bit here and there in the mix.
There are a couple of more things but mostly details. Do keep your comments coming :)
Regarding the drums I would go for the raw tracks and drasticly lower the amount of reverb on the hihats. That would make the mix tighter. With so much instruments it?s important to keep them all contained., I think.
Thanks for the tip! I'm already using the raw drums. The drummer had limited input channels and had to bus some tracks so they are not 'real' seps. Nevertheless he did a really good job with the bussing and recording so it's not that bad at all :)
I really like these new vocals. Lyrics are great and the voice is great!! The only thing I can say negative about it though is, and I feel like this is a really common thing, but I think the mic. Gain is too high. A lot of singers turn up the mic gain so they can sing really softly, but then the recording doesn?t fit the song. The song wasn?t recorded gently, we are all jamming. So the vocals need more grit. They just don?t sound like heavy, and passionate. The mics not being hit hard. There?s need to be more grit, in my opinion. It sounds like she?s singing quietly in a room, not belting it out at full volume on a stage or something, ya know?
I'm glad you like the vocals and lyrics! I too think Ellen did a great job.
I can understand to a certain extent what you mean with the attitude, but also there are so many great details in her voice and how she emphasizes certain phrases and words that make listening to the vocals a pure treat to me :)
Ellen wanted to listen to the tune this week so I'm looking forward to hearing what she has to say.
Thanks for your feedback - let's try to make this as solid as possible!
I'm glad you all like the vocals! I'm just happy to be a part of this collaboration. You are all such talented musicians!
I will leave my comments on the third version of the mix.
