Creative Brief

I see this as being a Celtic-tinged folk song, though open to other interpretations.

I've included a rough vocal demo, but would like to get a proper vocalist to work on the song and they are free to create their own melody idea.

The lyric is about a couple who lost their fisherman son to the sea. The mother spent the rest of her days sitting in a chair in their house looking out at the fishing boats going out to sea and back into the bay, with a picture of her son in her hands. By the end of the song, the mother is dead but her husband has taken over her vigil

His Picture

(Verse 1)

She used to watch the boats

Anne lived down by the sea

Count them out and count them back again

With his picture on her knee

(Verse 2)

He used to tend his pots

Blond curls twirled in the breeze

Pull them in and put them back again

Baited mackerel in each creel

(Chorus)

But the wind doth puff

And the wind doth blow

Many seasons pass

Some of us grow old

(Verse 3)
She used to watch the boats

Anne lived down by the sea

Count them out and count them back again

With his picture on her knee

(Verse 4)
I bought him his first boat

That was back in Eighty-three

He took her out and took her back again

Glided right upside the quay

(Chorus)

But the wind doth puff

And the wind doth blow

Many seasons pass

Some of us grow old

(spoken softly)

And some don't

(Outro)

Now the house is empty

All the crowd's departed

Leaving just me.

I climb the stairs

Sit in Ann's seat

Count them out and count them back again

With his picture on my knee.

Count them out and count them back again

With his picture on my knee
