Creative Brief
Hello there,
After coming across this song and taking a listen I thought it was a really great song which had a really strong vocal from Jen, fantastic lyrics from Simon and a great harmonic progression.
So here is a nod of the head to Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica and all the great European power metal bands in this spin-off version,
It is very different from the original but still very inspired by the original and I hope you can appreciate and notice the inspiration in the my finished Demo. It was created with the upmost respect to the original track and musicians as they are all killer musicians in their own right.
I need Bass, Drums, Keys and if someone wants to do a vocal/backing vocal track they feel better suits the tempo of this version then please feel free to upload away.
I hope I can keep the spirit of this song alive through my interpretation.
All the best
Original description:
I see this as being a classic rock ballad. It's about a guy who had a crush on a girl many years ago. He wrote love letters to her but never plucked up the courage to send them. Now, many years later he's about to move him and has finally decided that it's time to bin those old letters that have been gathering dust in his attic!
The Promise of Love
(Verse 1)
I saw a shooting star
It sizzled as it fell
Might have just been tear-blurred eyes
Sometimes it's hard to tell.
(Verse 2)
The years they fell away
Discarded like old clothes
I saw the ravages of time
Never thought that I could cope.
(Pre chorus)
Postage stamps on love letters
That I never sent
Kept sprawled on attic shelves
Ancient relics from when
(Chorus)
My heart ached with
The promise of love
My heart raced with
The promise of love
My heart still held its spark
A light shone in the dark
The promise of love
(Verse 3)
Drove round your house that night
Another car was there
Caught sight of you with him
And drowned in my despair.
(Verse 4)
Alley cats stared at me
What foolish human ways
To stand alone in darkness
And never ever say.
(Pre chorus)
Postage stamps on love letters
That I never sent
Kept sprawled on attic shelves
Ancient relics from when
(Chorus)
My heart ached with
The promise of love
My heart danced with
The promise of love
My heart still held its spark
A light shone in the dark
The promise of love
(Bridge)
Now the years are measured in layers of dust
The sheen of love, once youthful, has turned to rust
I whisper 'I love you' one more time
(I never stopped)
But it's time to move on from here
And pack my mem'ries up
(Pre chorus)
Postage stamps on love letters
That I never sent
Kept sprawled on attic shelves
Ancient relics from when
(Chorus)
My heart ached with
The promise of love
My heart danced with
The promise of love
My heart still held its spark
A light shone in the dark
The promise of love
