I am very happy! My first lyrics in english! Yesss! \0/ I wrote a song in portuguese, my native language ... I tried to translate it into english and asked Mike to improve it and sing ... the result was this one. I want to thank Mike for his amazing work, as usual! Thank you for listening. I hope you like it and stay safe! ;) Fly over the Stars Turn off the lights Let's look at the stars shining They will cover our dreams with light Just look at them while they shine so bright There will be hope for us We dream in the colors borrowed by the sea Illuminated in the sky, in a moonlit night all we have are instants and in an instant we are nothing So let's enjoy the ride tonight The right wind will blow from the sea you can believe Everything will be alright Love is only real if it can fly over the stars and if it never sinks into the sea We live in the currents We plan the tides then follow the moon and the sun An atom in the universe and the universe in an atom Just a scattered puzzle We dream... in the colors borrowed by the sea The right winds will blow from the sea, you can believe! Everything will be alright Clear night and sky... For the last one who goes to sleep turn off the stars!

The lyrics are so good. It's a great song and I was very happy to collaborate with you, as always. Very fine work Jorge and also very fitting for your beautiful country

Thank you Mike. I'm glad you liked the song and my country. Your Jacob Collier-style vocals are super my friend! Thank you so much

Jacob Collier?! I wish. It helped a lot that I was singing those lyrics, because I think they are perfect. and... in my travels, Portugal stands as one of my very favorite. Beautiful land and people

Everything is easy for you to sing. I think if you opened a dictionary, you could sing what you read there :)))

I am upset... first non-lyricists try their hand at writing and do it better than me ... now non-native speakers write a better lyric than I can write! What is next??? Lol :) Seriously though this is great. Fantastic job both of you! I do similar work with Edson Castro here, who is also a Portuguese speaker and amazing poet. The beauty of lyrics transcend language boundaries :D

haha always sidetracked . . . my attention span is crazily bad lol! But I feel I'm making progress, be it ever so slow . . . I'm sure once I get out of school I'll be able to start sharing. :P

You know, there is something to transcribed language. All languages have their own intricacies, and when transcribed, they bring out something unexpected and unusual in that other language. It consistently results in something that is naturally unique. To me, everybody has the ability to write, just like everybody has the ability to play an instrument, or to learn some other skill. It's just a matter of desire and willingness to learn

But not everyone has the ability to sing like you Mike ... hahaha

but they could and most of them better! They just have to be willing to try! Thank you!!

Exactly! And AMEN to that last point . . . and I'll say it now, that even though some people are born more naturally talented at things than others, in my mind that can be a curse rather than a blessing. Take me as a writer: I could write beautiful poems by the time I was seven years old. I've had to learn to improve in SPITE of that, not because. Often people who have to start from square one have no pride, arrogance, or illusions, and come out even BETTER than people with so-called "born talent." Maybe that ruffles a few feathers, but hopefully that's a bit relatable! It's never to far away, and I know lyricists who are way better than me not because they are born like that, but because they put in that work!

I don't think it ruffles feathers Mike. You are an excellent writer, but what is better? That is purely subjective opinion, as is any creative pursuit as far as I'm concerned. One person can like Dali, and think he is better than Picasso, and another person could feel the opposite. Who is right? Neither, of course. We all have our preferences in art, and that is as it should be. Some things in life are clear cut, right or wrong, good or bad, but art is purely subjective.

Very well said. I think what I meant mainly was becoming better at one's individual craft, not being better in a competitive sense. You are definitely right with all you have said. :) I think we certainly agree and it's great that you said that!

Mike, you are very clear and your points are well composed and well received. I see you as unquestionably a good person, and someone who leaves a positive path behind him. Those are the very traits we all should aspire to. It's good to discuss these things sometimes. sorry for hijacking this thread too!
