My Washburn RX-22 "Internet Special..." There used to be an internet-based company called "Hello Music!" that would sell gear cheap, usually as a result of said gear having been bought cheap in bulk because it had been discontinued. I bought this guitar for $99 with the intention of using it as a project guitar. The guitar originally had two humbuckers, a three-way switch, one tone knob, one volume knob, and a wiring configuration I couldn't identify. I replaced the bridge pickup with a GFS "Mean 90" and the neck pickup with a GFS "Dream 90," both of which are P-90 clones that fit into a humbucker slot. I removed all of the wiring and rewired it like a Tele, and replaced the tone knob with a Fender TBX tone control. The TBX has a detent in the center position; to the left of that acts as a normal tone control, while to the right of the detent gradually removes the effect of the tone circuit from the signal completely.

I have never been that good of a player to justify buying guitars more than $200. But some of the "cheapies" are not that bad- and if the body and neck are good, make for great guitars to mod!

Billy, .. you might like Guitaristas, on Youtube .. he's constantly on the hunt for guitar treasures, that don't cost an arm & a leg. Sometimes, he repairs them .. or changes out parts, that he doesn't like. Definitely not sponsored by any big guitar company.

Those GFS Dream 90s and Mean 90s are great. I have a pair of each in two different guitars and they sound fantastic.

I played a Washburn when I was in High School. I had an Ibanez with a dodgy edge pro trem and I was constantly in the local guitar shop getting it repaired. At one point he couldn?t repair it in time for a show so he said just take that Washburn and use that for the show. I did and ended up asking if I could trade in the Ibanez and take the Washburn. It played great and I used it all the way up to my first year of University. Then I got into Jazz and a Blue Washburn with Pink Pickups started getting me evil looks. So it went in the hardcase and that was the last I saw of it. I imagine someone bought it and took out the Dimarzio Evos because they were worth more than the actual guitar itself. Anyway thanks for sharing that photo. The headstock shape brought back some fond memories.
