Question: Is a count in e.g. a hi hat count in at the start if a track equvilant to the sync tones provided by the site. Or should I use the the sync tones only?

Not equivalent but for practical purposes a hihat count in is good enough.

Got ya, if the official sync tone s are more favorable I will use those from this point on. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused anyone I have worked with thus far.

Can be used as such. Biggest problems with the K-supplied ones are that they tend to be too loud, by default, and that they are not sync'ed to the tempo. If you use them it is wise to split them and line them up with the grid before using.

I see, thanks for the info. I typically just use a simple midi count in but thought I'd ask if there were any issues with doing such.

yes = all ya need is a constant of some kind before the song as a flag for exact start line up if needed.. could be a belch.. finger snap.. string scratch... All the seps with flag lined up to original flag = spot on.. dont worry about "sync tone"

Where the ^%#& is the LIKE button on comments? I like ANYTHING better than that Evil Sync Tone! Ever heard one that someone included in the bed-track and ran through their limiter????? I already have tinnitus... I don't need any help kicking it up. ;) Besides a simple 4-count on ANYTHING is easier to line up than that "EVIL SYNC TONE". For me at least. Now back to regularly scheduled programming.... :)

In the 5 plus years I have been (not so active) on here, I have never used the supplied "extremely annoying" sync tones. Yes, a Hi hat click is the way to go. I don't understand why that wouldn't be the norm really. A hi hat or stick click in at the same tempo, no brainer, if you ask me.

as long as the count in has a sharp attack and not run through fx its fine. why folks do not turn down the sync tone is beyond my pay grade. the reason the sync tones are what they are is because the ones provided are/were industry standard in television/movie audio video synchronization for many years.
