Hello , all So AviRosenfeld asked me to play acoustic drums & bass on his song Burning Angels Flying . With the only direction being to play the drums in the style of the drum machine on his track . When I listened to the original drum track it sounded fine . So I figured maybe he wanted me to help bring the song more to life add & match the character of the song . Anyway what do you guys think ? Do you agree with Avi on his appraisal of my performance on this song . He says the groove is too busy.

So there's nothing wrong at all with the drums you added. If you like the add, then it's all good. The thing to acknowledge is that what your vision of the song and the drums was didn't match up to Avi's vision. That doesn't make either of you wrong or right: it means it's not what Avi, as the proj owner, was looking for. It's part of the process here: everyone here, no matter how talented, has posted auditions to projects where they thought they had blown the doors off it only to have the project owner not feel it. Avi was courteous and provided you with feedback - not all proj owners do so (which sucks but it is what it is). Since this stuff is all online, it's an iterative process in most cases where you post an idea, get feedback, then try it again. I mean, you and Avi were not in the same room conversing as you worked on it so his only chance to offer constructive criticism was after you posted your idea. Which he did. You now have the choice of engaging Avi in a dialog to identify more about what he's after, or you can decide that what you did was the only thing you can do, let Avi know and move on.

You are not actually a full fledged member of this site until you have been invited to, contributed to, and rejected from an Avi Rosenfeld project. Welcome!!!!

Side note: I've been looking a Avi's profile pic for nine years and only now noticed that there is a guitar in the painting.

Another side note: After writing 910 songs, Avi posts a song titled "I Never Told You".... ...c'mon...Really?

Welcome to the darkside of online collaborations. In the same project you submitted your work on, mine was left in the idea pool untouched and abandoned. I pulled out after 3 months of nothing. I hesitate to collaborate now days after 6 years of these bad experiences and poorly managed projects...

Yea , I hear you & I completely get & see what your getting at . I am new here . I could be wrong but I?m starting to get the cence that not ever one on here is truly here to collaborate . But rather use this as just another platform to show case their work . I mean I?m a muti skilled musian/artist too . I could upload my whole catalog Of totally complete songs . Under the pretense of looking for ? Collaborators ? but then reject every attempted submission. I feel this site might be a home to disingenuousness individuals who are exploiting it as a way to release their material .

There are a lot of good peeps here - one way to not have that experience is posting your own project, then you control the experience others have when they work with you. I too had similar experiences with that particular person, don't let that discourage you guys... one thing you can also do is message a project owner before hand to get direction before you take on the track.

To keep active in music, I've learnt to transcribe my own music and play what I write. I guess its different for everyone depending on their goals and preferences... Being retired, Its a hobby to keep the mind challenged and inspired :)

Cence, I've only been on this site for six weeks. I have submitted stuff and didn't know how things would work out. However, I've enjoyed submitting my ideas and seeing some of them incorporated, others not. Like sriracha and sterling said ..... it really depends on the vision of the project. Some are more open ended than others. In my opinion, the most fun ones are the 'exploratory/open ended pieces of work' when the end goal isn't really known - someone submits something unexpected and you think .... wow thats great .... why didn't I think of that and it takes the project to somewhere you would never have imagined. There are so many talented people here that are willing to give the benefit of their ideas ..... some projects are more open by their nature, and other less so, but both types of collaboration are equally valid. I agree with Sterling and Rottgold - try setting up your own project to see things from 'the other point of view'. You will soon find out that some ideas you will like, and some you might not be so keen on. And ... at least for me [and I'm sure most others] it isn't the most fun bit to tell someone that you wont include their idea. However, it is part of the territory of Kompoz .... don't take it personally. There are so many generous, kind and talented collaborators on here [I haven't met a 'bad' one yet] ..... but understanding that people have different musical visions, helps when you don't have an idea accepted. I hope this helps you a little bit, and let me and others know if you want some help or have any ideas you want to try. Please don't take it personally.

Now I'm starting to wonder if I may have inadvertently pxxxd someone off by not giving them feedback [.... if I havent ..... sorry..... my bad ......]

Man , that's no big deal ,tho' Phoephus comment is totally valid , Sriracha is totally right The YUUUGE majority of peoples are here to collaborate , some are more open when it comes to other parts , some has a clear vision of what they want IMHO u should respect and cherish any opinions ,especially critcisms , ego is musician's best enemy , learn to take criticism especially if it's constructive I understand that being invited , u might expect an automatic ''acceptance'' you shouldn't From my understanding u gonna start to upload your own project : imagine u invite me for geetar rythm and i deliver a poor performance and\or something u don't feel (this is totally hypotical) you should be able to tell me right? I think u shouldn't be tied by that invitation. I might disagree with you but it's your project ,right? And community's peoples shouldn't decide for you , no? All u can ask is simple etiquette : getting peoples feedback ,invited or not . I'm not a pro-prolific musician as you but when i get rejected me , myself and i, we cry a little bit and then move on , and after the egoistic pain faded , we decide it was a good practice for the next project where we gonna get a ''Wow amazing,i just got goosebumps listening to ur audition , u're the man'' All this to say : ''U win some , u loose some ,C'est la vie''

Wow that was very long winded response . But I think everyone is less understanding on the true intent of my post . The main goal of my post was to get input on the song it?s self as I stated .To see if people actually agreed with it being to busy or what . Not really ego driven. It was intended to give us both perspective. As if I truly sucked ass on my performance or was way off . The comments of other would help dispel my delusion . But on the other hand if everyone was in favor of it . And were giving feed back on how good the over all song sounds now . Just maybe Avi would reconsider using the 2 performances I contributed to . That way my entire Sunday that I spent my time effort and energy working on this wouldn?t have been a waist . Yes waist . Cause I could use that time effort energy. On a project that would have been more fruitful. That being said thanks for the pepp talk & the time & energy you put in to giving a response .

I'm a dude that need to track a lot to get a ''heardable'' result and i understand that as a drummer u can't punch in punch out. So to avoid wasting time , i submit a short snippet and leave a comment like: ''Hey (insert kompoz member name )here's my idea , if u like it i'll finish it , if not feel free to discard''

So my policy has always been to accept whatever I get and incorporate it into the project. Whatever direction it takes. For me that is part of the fun. Part of the challenge. I have never rejected or archived anything from anyone. Just lucky I guess :) PS: Drums are never wasted. Put up your own project with the drum track and anything you want to add and watch it grow.....

No worries. I have played on many Avi songs. He is very particular about what he envisions. He always gives feedback on submissions which is a good thing. If your part is not what he wants so be it. Try again or move on to something else. It's all a learning experience.

If anything it's not busy enough. Seems too sparse. Just my two cents.
