In a day of members sniping back and forth, I'd like to take a moment and appreciate a member who just passed away, Andy Orriell. Andy was a class act and one of the first people here to interact with me when I joined. His absolute positive outlook and thoughtful nature drew me in and made me want to be a part of this place, regardless of my own many flaws. (I don't have to social distance, my personality does that for me, lol). I got involved in a project with Andy and several of the best on this site to create an album to donate profits to cancer research, which Andy was in the middle of fighting. I truly didn't add anything and am a bit embarrassed by my work on his projects as I was still learning. But he never made me feel that way, and I stayed in touch with him through his struggles via facebook. I was shocked to hear he'd passed away yesterday - I never knew he had relapsed. A truly excellent person has left us. Please enjoy one of his tunes I had nothing to do with, lol. "Paradox"

Very nice composition. Sorry to hear this news. Getting older, seems cancer is touching a lot of people who I know and also in my larger circle, including my own bout with it. Do you know what type of cancer it was? "I don't have to social distance, my personality does that for me" - I might need to borrow that from you...

I didn't know Andy as well as others here and to be honest, I never felt comfortable asking. I just exchanged messages last month with him about nothing in particular. He never said a thing.

My condolences, that is too bad to hear . . . there have been too many people passing away in this community lately, and it's strange that even some of the ones I never knew (like this) still kind of hit me hard. I guess it's just the culmination of it all. The one beautiful thing about Kompoz is that you really do live on here. And people care about you, and your songs will be heard for however long this site is up. Cancer is rough, especially if you're relatively young. I mean, I heard that my father's side has a genetic trait where all his relatives get pancreatic cancer in their mid-90's - at least that's what my Dad's cousin was saying - but that at least means you live to your mid-90's in my family lol. But it's a sad thing when you hear these cancer deaths coming in younger and younger. Stay strong in his memory, everyone! I know he would want that.

Andy was younger than I. Seems wrong, that.

That I did not know. Even worse. I imagined it was not past 60's and 70's for sure, but just to hear that . . . breaks my heart. sriracha . . . I'm sure you've probably heard that a lot of us on Kompoz are putting on a tribute show to help Ray "stay strong" in his current fight with cancer . . . do you think anyone would mind a brief mention of the name, along with our condolences? Seems appropriate . . . but I don't want to overstep my boundaries.

Id say it's Johnny Rotten... (Just read his bio - He was a Sex Pistols fan). Here's to Andy, long remembered here thru musical legacy!

Well said Bill... Andy was indeed a class act and a prolific musician too. I was really sad to hear this news. I do thank you for letting us know. Gone but not forgotten, and it's yet another cool thing about this site, the music and a lot of past communications remain. I spent some time earlier going back to revisit

Thanks so much, Billy, for letting us know that he passed away. I didn't know him well and only had one or two collabs with him. I believe I was just in my first or second year here on Kompoz. In just a few private messages back and forth, he let me know at that time his cancer was in remission and he was gung ho about working again on music. My little interaction with him was always kind, charming, and encouraging. He was an AMAZING musician but was never ever condescending towards me. Actually, just the opposite... always encouraging and uplifting. May he rest in peace and may his lovely memories (and music) live on and warm the hearts of his family and friends closest to him!!

I was sad to learn of Andy's passing. I enjoyed his music immensely. He was a cool cat as well and a fighter. He fought it the best he could for a few years. Rest in peace Andy
