Don't know if you all of you have seen this yet ... the 2018 chanting project ... Feel free to sing along and/or play along ... you dont have to play all through the 10 minutes ... however much you want! I will try to accept all submissions like i have done for previous chanting projects ... Asato Ma Sadgamaya is a mantra of peace (Shaanti Mantra). It is taken from Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. The language is Sanskrit Asato-ma sad-gamaya, Tamaso-ma jyotir-gamaya Mrityor-ma amritam-gamaya Om Shaanti Shaanti Shaanti-hi Take me from false to truth Take me from darkness to light Take me from finiteness to immortality Peace ... take me to peace!

Happy Diwali everyone ... Here is a track I just recorded with one of the great Indian maestros of Veena (Veena is sort of the grandfather of Sitar) ... Haven't done much here on kompoz lately. Hopefully more stuff this year.

Let me know if you'd like to be part of this song which I'm co-writing with my friend from Pune. Looking for any Indian contributions to the music only. Vocals and melody will be done later. Rob

I wrote to a gentleman by the name of Jack Sim recently. Jack is the founder of the WTO. Yes that's right, the World Toilet Organization. The WTO has done some amazing work in countries where clean and safe toilets are not a given. The WTO has provided toilets for hundreds of thousands of struggling people throughout the world. Jack philosophy is "Live a useful life" and the results are improved lives and the restoration of dignity. I mentioned to Jack that I'd run some song writing workshops in Laos last year and that I'd be keen to explore ways to get kids writing songs promoting toilets and sanitation. My initial thinking was to work on something for India. Jack thinks this idea has some merit and has asked me how it will work and how can it go viral? So now I'm exploring ways to get things started. Love to hear any ideas any of you may have or any experiences especially in those countries that need this sort of assistance. Cheers Rob

Namaste, Namoshka, G'Day I'm working on an idea for a folk style song. I have no idea if the melody has any geographical roots. I think I may have been influenced by Shamik's Dotara and Ektara I've heard over the years. I've left this first mix pretty sparse with just a few guitars, Tanpura (D) and a very simple beat track. I have plans to turn this song into a 'Hand Washing With Soap" lesson and game in Hindi, maybe Urdu (different style) and possibly Bangla if someone can provide a translation of the lyrics for that. Otherwise just feel free to make lovely sound with me and let's see where we go from here.

I wrote this about 10 years ago. Delhi was preparing for the Commonwealth Games and the developers were starting to clear the streets of 'homeless' people. It's a crossover and collaboration between myself and a some of Delhi's top classical instrumentalists. Hope you enjoy it. Rob

Folks ... I've started a project on James' request. But I think it would be great for anyone else wanting to teach or learn Indian classical music. Contribute if you want to teach or learn ... There are two files in the project for now. One is a song that we can develop. The other one is just a random tutorial on Raag Yaman Kalyan ...
