TOP 5 PROG LIST (RIGHT NOW)? So, I had this fun idea, to ask everyone what their PERSONAL top 5 prog songs are right now (from any era). I expect this to really vary, because the genre has so many differences, from sometimes soft Gabriel-era Genesis to Death Metal Vocal Opeth, and from sometimes fun and light-hearted Haken to completely melancholy Steven Wilson. Here's my (only personal) 5 I would take with me anywhere if I only had to choose from: 5) Riverside - Second Life Syndrome 4) Haken - The Architect 3) Yes - The Gates of Delirium 2) Transatlantic - Stranger in Your Soul 1) Dream Theater - Breaking All Illusions I'm sure I'm missing many . . . and I only included one by each artist. How about you guys?

Not that I'm much of a Facebook user beyond keeping tabs with my extended family and some friends, but I would recommend any Prog fan on Kompoz check out Jordan Rudess's Facebook page every day at 4pm eastern to watch him put on an at-home piano concert. Just tuned in for the first time and it was amazing! No worries if nobody is into that, but I thought it might be a good heads-up to the group. :D

Hey guys - back on a paid plan, and I got a lot catching up to do with this group lol but I hope to get it back on par with the other genre-specific groups here. I will begin to start posting regularly here again, and am up to any ideas on how to make this a successful group. :D I especially think I can be a good influence to us prog people stuck inside during the coronavirus, and could lighten up our days. So it has extra meaning now!

Gentle Giant 1970's.......... Did Queen invent opera-rock? Check this out and then ask yourself: Gentle Giant had the dubious honor of being an inspiration to many of the early prog era, but never making it "big" on their own. One of the great and also damning things about them was the number of complex styles they played, often quirkily, within an LP or even same track. It was only when they simplified their style in their later years did they gain a bigger audience. But it was pretty much too late.... Personally, I don't reach for their stuff very often...but when I do I ask myself why I don't.

What happens now? .......... MikeJM unfortunately closed his account today. Even if he were to come back, it would not be as same profile. What happens now to this group? Anyone know anything about why he closed his account? Very sad thing to happen :(

Hello fellow prog heads! :) So I originally created this group with the intent of updating it regularly . . . however, as I reiterate on occasion, being a college student messes everything up! lol I do see that there has been some interest though, and with the new topic-focused group creations in 2019, I would also like to add this to the list of groups that are active and well-run places for fans of a particular genre to go to. I am not so much asking for volunteers to help me (though if you guys want to I'd appreciate it, it's just a lot to ask!) but rather suggestions from those who have joined this group and showed an interest in it on how to improve it! It belongs to all of us, and I'd like to make it a place for all prog fans to enjoy. :)

Do you roll your eyes when someone calls a 6-to-8 minute track a "long" song?

How about when people can't imagine a great metal track breaking into some polka spontaneously and then going back?

Well, there's a good chance you belong in this group. :D

This group is for Prog Rock/Metal artists, Prog Rock/Metal Fans, and/or anyone who just wants to explore the genre

And no, don't worry, no entrance tests lolol - everyone's invited!

Here we can showcase our talents, talk about the latest prog music outside Kompoz, look for like-minded musicians to team up with - again, just like everyone's invited, everything is welcome that has the word 'prog' in it!

I (@MikeJM) will continue to update and be active in this group, so if you have any feedback or ideas please contact me!

Now somebody cue the 12-minute long Guitar and Keyboard trading solos section!
