I am hoping to post more stuff like this going forward.

Awesome, I look forward to that. I was just talking to a friend of mine about how to increase my mechanical skills. I can find my way around the neck without issue. But executing something cleanly and consistently just seems to elude me. Exercises like this were one of the things he mentioned.

lol - ok, but it's not that exciting to see someone playing this stuff - it's more exciting to play it and get the feel. triplet feel is initially easier to wrap your head around (I think) with this style of playing. I can do 16ths @ 132 bpm up and down the scale form in this pattern. But I try and practice this all as 8ths. I can post the guitar pro for this as well if anyone uses that. That's even easier than me playing it, lol, since you can play along and scale the speed up or down as you want.

What I like about this is it trains your right hand to be able to take the next step for sweeps and stuff.

I've been playing guitar for 20 yrs and still can't sweep pick.....I know, sad isn't it? lol

um...yeah - that. Been playing longer and am just starting to feel like a child playing sweeps...my only defense is I took a musical hiatus for 18 years...until joining here and getting back into it.

Same here , just worse Economy picking is also interesting in itself...

it's fun to try and wrap my head around using it, when to use it etc. I got the idea from watching a Jason Richardson tutorial. Man - that guy is scary good and while he can play stuff so insanely fast, it's cool that he can play the same stuff at a human tempo and it still sounds good. So many shredders I hear can sweep at speed but it falls apart when they play slow. I think that's a technique issue. He did this in the middle of some insane sweeping because of the position of the phrases and where he was transitioning on the fretboard he said he couldn't play the lick he wanted to play using alternating picking so he went with economy and it got me playing around with it.

Honestly, in those 20 years I never took practicing seriously. Now however I've reached a point where I wanna dedicate time to do so. I just hope I can overcome all the bad habits and muscle memory I have acquired in that time,

This looks interesting! Just recently got into economy picking here and has kind of affected my alternate picking with the habit changing, although my alternate picking can be a bit temperamental anyway. :D

Everything I ever did as far as exercises and stuff at school was totally focused on alternate picking. I can jump around over strings without much thought at this point doing that so I've never felt like it was a technique to learn, but I've also got my own idiosyncratic bits of technique like everyone else and some of that uses economy style picking. So I figured I'd try and get a little better at it and then I realised it helped with my sweep technique. That is huge to me as that's a technique I've been trying to improve for quite a few years now. I wish I could find more practice time in a day, lol.

That is another thing with the sweep picking and always found it totally unnatural to play until a year or two ago and three string sweeping suddenly clicked which in turn has helped with economy picking or kind of like 2 string sweeps. I've been trying this kind of 2 string sweep/economy pick with the pentatonic scale which is fun. PS: Here's a manageable 3-string sweep exercise I used when I had just broken myself in with sweeping. Keep meaning to upload a Pachelbel Canon In D-esque 3 string sweeping exercise too which I find handy with practicing major and minor 3-string sweeps. Sweep Picking | Major Shape | Three String Exercise For Guitar: https://youtu.be/tEjCzC5rxuI I'm sure folks will be able to play it cleaner and faster than I, but the basics are there. :)
